Yes, that's what I meant. With Nova, or some other launcher, you can access it on the Note (or Max 2, or any similar device).

The PDF experience tends to be quite poor on the Kobo Aura One. It can be improved somewhat by installing the Koreader software and using that to read PDFs. However, that also has its limitations.

But, of course, the Kobo Aura One isn't a tablet, and expecting it to act like one will inevitably lead to frustration and disappointment. I am quite happy with my KA1 and find that it does the job it was designed for, displaying kepubs, quite well. Through patching and installing other firmware, its functionality can be expanded, but it will never perform like a tablet.

Similarly, the Note is not a tablet. It is an enhanced ereader. It is a hybrid device which has some of the functionalities of a tablet, but which also carries with it some of the limitations, as well the advantages of an ereader.

Although there are certainly some bugs which need ironing out, the Note is a truly remarkable device with a lot of potential. I think the problem is that some people are listening to the hyperbole of certain "reviewers" and are expecting it to perform like a tablet. That is a mistake and will inevitably lead to disappointment. Although one might conceivably be able to install millions of apps, the vast majority of those apps will not function properly.

However, if one purchases the Note knowing that it is a hybrid device and sets one's expectations accordingly, the potential and usefulness of this device becomes much more apparent. That is why I think that many of us are currently quite happy and excited about the Note despite its current limitations. Indeed, I haven't used my KA1 since my Note arrived. I expect that my Note will now become my primary reader. I will probably reserve my KA1 for reading kepubs in Japanese. At least until I find an app that can handle Japanese as well as it can.

That was just perfectly said. I think you got the point there. I see so many messages talking about using this device as a tablet, but it is an eReader. If you want multimedia or webbrowsing its the wrong device.

As an eReader it does a good job, but as said there are some bugs, performance and batterie issues. Sometimes the build in apps crash... if this gets fixed it´s perfect for my need, but also in the state right now its a good reader and I like using it.

My Note finally arrived (but no mini-led for me...).
It's surprisingly light and fast and the stylus seems to work fine.
I'm really excited!

You are probably shifting on the device what is instead intrinsic of the display.

EDIT: although «enhanced ereader» already starts making at least some sense ; )

Counterfactual.

Again: if you want EPD, it does the expected with it.

EDIT: look, is there any chance, that a person who has the primary need for «multimedia or webbrowsing» (or even note-taking!) turns to any such device? These devices are for people with the primary interest for what EPD brings! How can this be worth reminding?

On the n96ml+ the non standard launchers seem kind of slow to me.

I usually use the standard launcher, too. I only go into Nova when I want to access the 'hidden' settings. If you access Settings through Nova, you get the typical Marshmallow settings menu, which is more extensive than you get in Onyx settings. There are some advantages to that!

Actually, I would argue that it does the unexpected. It performs much better than I would have expected given my previous experiences with eink on other devices.

Web-browsing is remarkably good on the Note. Pleasurable even. And, although I wouldn't choose to watch many videos on my Note, it is wonderful to have that option available if needed.

Had previously only watched a couple of short videos online to see what the experience was like. Just tried loading several videos and watching them with a couple of different apps, MX and VLC. The sound and the picture were slightly out of sync, but the videos were watchable.

Yup. Also worth noting is that these devices have just come out so there are going to be some bugs which will take a while to work out.

Does that seem interesting?

It does - and it wouldn't take long to do. I'll try it soon.

If it does, we will present a long petition to Onyx for the next firmwares (Max2 and Note).
