Help needed
Manually fixed issues with files, which consisted of deleting some files and their directories and getting rid of file types I don't use. Example have directory with .epub and .txt, deleted the .txt file, leaving the preferred .epub file.
The question is now how do I get Calibre to adjust to the changes? Looking for a simple refresh option but can't seem to find anything. Did a search and could not find an answer. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

Next time don't go use third party tools to directly change items in calibre's database. Everything required for library maintenance is built into calibre, why anyone would go through the back door is amusing to me. |

Dwanthny is correct - this was not the way to do the job. That said, you can use "Check Database Integrity" in the pulldown next to the Library icon to remove the .txt file entries from the Calibre database that you manually deleted. If you just want to see the problems between what Calibre thinks you should have in the Library and what you actually have, use the "Check Database" option.

Hi sorry to be thick but I am trying to set up a custom column from two other custom columns; I don't even know if this is poss; and I am having a few problems sort out how it works
first I want a column to show three digits ranging from 001 up to 999 showing all three digits including the zeros; If poss. Called "Book Index" Second I want a column to show two characters from 01 to ZZ; if poss; if not then just 01 to 99 again showing the zeros, Called "Series Index" Thirdly I want a column that show both these columns in one, ie. 10~110. Called "File Index" Is any of this possible and if so how do I do it. I have looked through the through the FAQ and the manual and the other forums but to no avail I found the section about "Template Language" but due to my Dyslexia I was not able to understand what I did with. If you can make it simple as to what needs to be done then if I fail to understand then I can get my wife to help but she understands nothing when it comes to this sort of thing. Also is there any way of setting the default value for "File Index" to "00~000" Thanks Izzy Hold that I think I have sorted it with {#series_number:0>2s}~{#book_number:0>3s}. I was not putting the "#" in. I've set the original columns up as integers I know this means I can't use letters an numbers so if there is a way around that bit please let me know. See I told you I was thick but I got there in the end. Sorry to have bothered you. Thanks any way Last edited by IzzyMad; 11-01-2010 at 05:41 AM. Reason: Panic over we've sorted it? |

Not sure if it's on the mobile software's end or the Calibre end, but I get download errors if I password-protect the Calibre webserver, but the books download and open without any problem if the site isn't password protected.
I get the password screen, can enter the password and successfully log on, browse, search etc - however it's just the download itself that appears not to work when the password is enabled. Without a password turned on it otherwise works fine. I've tested this on G1s running both Android 1.6 and CyanogenMod 2.2 (6.0.0.0) - same behavior. |

Portable
First, thank you, kovidgoyal for all of your work and for what looks to be an awesome app.
I’m trying to set it up without having to install. I found instructions for making a portable version here: http://calibre-ebook.com/user_manual...ortablecalibre Bingo!. BUUUT… I can’t seem to run the install package without admin rights. Dang. What can I do? I’ve tried poking around with uniextract, but an answer is not readily apparent to my untrained eyes. Any help is appreciated. Thanks again. |

I have recently learned how to strip drm from my kindle books so that i can use calibre to translate mobi to pub. But I find that on my Sony readers (300 & 505) there is a problem with the epub version. When I turn pages, often I lose three or four lines of text.
No doubt this is because I am making the wrong selections in the conversion process. Can someone point me to something that will help me with this? EDIT: I think I've figured it out. I set up the output file to be customized for the 300, and eliminated the double space between lines. A quick once over seems to show that the problem is gone on my 300. I'm going to put the same file on my 505 & see if it's okay there, too. Further EDIT: Well, there are still some dropped lines on both readers...it's better, but not quite fixed. Newbie question: is there limitation of 50 chapters?
Hi all,
I have very basic problems when creating new books but can't find answer from searching: 1) The table of contents displays only first 50 chapters even my books have more than that number (but I can read all rest content by pressing button "next page" or scroll vertical bar). The problem can be observed in both e-book viewer and ibooks (on my IPhone) (I am using epub format). That happened not only 1 books but all my converted books. TOC items have only one level. All books' contents and TOC are in HTML format, UTF-8 encoding. I am using WinXP, ebook-converter 0.7.27. 2) I am using command line parameter --authors to add authors name - it works perfectly with name in ANSI but I can't enter the name in other encoding. How can I add an author name in Unicode? Many thanks for any helps. |

I used Calibre on my Windows laptop, but switched to a Linux OS, but haven't been able to download the Linux version of Calibre. The site notes, "If your kernel is compiled with CONFIG_SYSFS_DEPRECATED device detection may not work." That may be the situation. Is there a way around this to download and install the program?

you have to make sure the author name you type is encoded in the proper encoding of the console you use.

Can someone please help me on have to do this two simple things:
1. When adding/converting books i dont want calibre to changing file names, i want it to be same as original source file name. 2. When adding books why is there original source file been copied on another (calibre folder) place? Can it be directly converted from folder where i`m keeping original files at? It would save time and disk space considering i have lots of files to convert ![]() |
