For a lot of people, that deadends them at Win7 or Win8.1.

Others might be able to switch to KODI or some other options but for those exploiting the WMC-unique features, there is no substitute.

If there's demand, I'm sure that someone will develop a substitute and that it won't serve as a hindrance to Windows 10's adoption in the long run.

Microsoft's going to discover that there are many other barriers that will limit uptake. Some of those barriers are even out of Microsoft's hands, such as the segment of the market that isn't even interested in upgrading their computer out of a pure lack of interest.

I'd just like to get TO Win10, I'm fed up to my eyeballs with Win8.*, and Win7 doesn't play well with touchscreen tablets.

I've don't like the Win8 Modrn UI and 80's flat colors, but after removing the Metro apps and charms bar, I can live with it. The one thing I detest though, is the lack of drop shadows. Stacked windows are very hard to use, especially on a not-so-good monitor with bad viewing angles. My god i'm glad Win10 looks like it will reinstate drop shadows.

Still, I think Windows 7 looks better.

I also think, in 2020, we will have a new 'XP'. (Read: people refusing to budge from the then 11 year old Windows 7.)

Better yet, wait a bit longer. Microsoft's trying a few new things with their development process here so quality control may be a bit off because of there is less to commit to with rolling releases. Or maybe it will be better because they had a far more open beta. We'll find out soon enough.
