Audible's having one of their 3-books-for-2-credits sales, from a list of 150 books, through May 22.

I'm hard-pressed to find even one book of interest in this list! Oh well.

Agreed, pretty slim pickings. Though the first three Harry Bosch books are there, and if you haven't listened to any of them, that's a great way to get started for a good price. They're well read if I remember correctly.

Ooooh thanks GtrsRGr8 - my 94 year old father (WWII vet) passed away March 9th, and we're still waiting to hear from Arlington as to a burial date!

Wow. That really seems unreasonable, but maybe there are some pertinent facts that I do not know about it.

I'm sorry for your loss, but happy that you had him for so many years.

I've heard/read that Arlington is getting close to being full, and that the people over it (the National Parks Service?) are searching for a second area for burials. If I'm not mistaken, they believe that they cannot expand Arlington, because there is development all around it. IMHO, this would be one justifiable use of eminent domain. People and companies having their land taken probably wouldn't complain so much given the cause.

I really appreciate all of the WWII vets and when I see one wearing a baseball cap or something identifying himself (so far, no herself) as such, I always try to tell him that I appreciate his service. You certainly have a right to be proud of what your father did.

Oh, and thanks for the feedback about the Whispersync deal. It's gratifying.

My mom was buried in Arlington 20 years ago. At the time I was told only Vets & Families with reserved spots can be buried there. I remember Every Year they sent mom a post card she filled out & mailed back. IF she re-married or Died & buried else were. Then her spot would go to another person/vet. Mom wasn't a Vet she was Married to one.

It seems that six months seems to be the average length between most of the deaths and burials. Crazy. My mother was a non military spouse, like your mom, Katie, and it was only a nine day turn around time for her back in 1 98.

More half-informed prattle from me . . . . I think that those with charge over Arlington (or maybe higher up) have tightened the requirements since your mom was buried, to extend the time that Arlington could still be used. I saw a wonderful documentary about Arlington on television a few years ago that was chock full of information like that, and I regret to say that I don't remember now the great majority of what I heard.

Anyway, so that we don't get completely off-topic, I'm sure that that is just one of many things someone would learn from listening to or reading the book that I posted. ha.

An incident that you might find interesting . . . . A neighbor of mine was a career soldier in Army Special Forces--I have forgotten what rank that he had attained when he retired. I didn't know him very long before he died of throat cancer. But, over and over again, he mentioned to me that he met all of the requirements, and was all set to be buried at Arlington when he died. It was almost like he was looking forward to it! All of his close family--wife, brothers, sisters knew what he wanted. Well, when he died, his family decided that he ought to be buried in a cemetery in the state here, so they could "go and see him more often," and that's where they buried him! On top of that, his wife didn't think that the rest of the family even cared enough about him to ever go "see" him! The cemetery where he was buried is a national cemetery, but of course it is nothing compared to Arlington!
