You should be able to send feedback through the app. You are all testers for the device. They expect feedback regularly.

Try placing the speaker close to the wall - I have mine in a corner near the wall. The sound reflects back and is much improved that way, but it still does need an equalizer.

I don't really expect a small speaker like that to replace my stereo.surround system though. We have one of those DTS player thingies that plays DVD audio and those other special whatever the heck they called (pain killer fuzzy brain).

My husband has been collecting those over the years hunting them downs as they are not made anymore and are now expensive. We have a nice system and when I have moments to totally jam out, I use the big stereo.

But for what it is, I thought its a really nice sound. For everyday its fine. I can't do the base much around here as I live in apartments, but again, if I need that kind of music, I go to the proper system.

I haven't tried metal on it yet, not sure if I have anything other than metallica at the moment anyway. They should be in my cloud I can try.

I saw a YouTube clip of how to amplify your smartphone speakers. They tested alot of methods and came to conclusion placing your smartphone in a ceramic bowl did the trick. Not sure how to apply that to Echo but it might give you some ideas.

My Amazon Fire Phone speakers are crap. So are my Kindle Fire 6. My Kindle Fire 7 HD 2013 has decent speakers and I listen rock like Bon Jovi, Poison and other 80s rock bands. Yes showing my age here! They sounds pretty good on my HD7. So I agree Amazon should take quality of sound into effect on a $199 speaker.

Thanks, I think I'll try that! It's funny that the Amazon directions say to place it at least eight inches from the wall, but it sounds much better an inch or two away. I wonder if I got a dud except for the fact that I've seen too many people say that their smartphone speakers sound good, so I don't know if I can trust most other people's opinion. But as I said before, CNET said they don't sound good, so I'm not alone. An equalizer app would really help too.

You like Classical if I remember right. You are the one who got me into listening to it posting all cheap albums Amazon has now and then. I wound up later buying Rise of the Masters collections which were like $5 a piece at the time and now like $2.19.

It's the only music I can listen to while reading that doesn't distract me.

Correct, I love classical. It's what I listen to while reading. I have the entire Rise of the Masters collection and love it. I've been adding to my classical collection with lots of Prime stuff.

But my favorite music is 60s and 70s rock; from the British Invasion to psychedelic, hard rock, and heavy metal. Beatles, Kinks, Yardbirds, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Blue Oyster Cult, Deep Purple, Judas Priest, Queen, Cars, Talking Heads, Foghat, Thin Lizzy, etc.

I also like 50s and 60s oldies; and even the Carpenters.

edit: I forgot one - Big Band Swing. Love Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman, etc.

I think we are all eclectic these days in taste. If it sounds good I will listen to it!

I like it when reading period noir.

Otherwise, classical, light jazz and select pop instrumental is my background reading music for SF. For fantasy, I tend to go with the Medieaval Babes, Lessiem, or Enya.
