55 Books on sale!

Keep in mind some of these are topaz format. I picked up the Bobbi Smith books I didn't have knowing they were topaz format. These are new releases of very old books never available before in ebook format. Amazon has been doing this alot lately it's a lazy way to make a book digital but I am willing to take a chance for the price on converting these treasures.
I was interested in the Bobbi Smith ones, but I checked the font and I can't read that. Its horrible. So I can't get it.

I read Elaine Barbieri "Hawk" as my January prime loan and it too had horrible formatting. The story was good, but some of the words ran together and such things.

I can't believe they doing a sale with so many of those books being almost unreadable. At least for me.
Disappointing.

Saving Grace by Sandy James (Carina Press author).

Quote:
Grace Riley is on the run—from her past and from her fears. The victim of a violent rape at the hands of a rich politician’s son, she must “disappear” to escape his constant attempts to recapture her. Moving from cattle drive to cattle drive as a cook, she avoids her tormentor for nearly twenty years. When she discovers that the brother she gave up for adoption after their mother died in childbirth was orphaned at an early age, she is frantic to verify that he’s safe. She tracks him to a cattle ranch in Montana.

Widower Adam Morgan owns the Twin Springs ranch, but finds himself falling into a life of loneliness. Although he enjoys spending time with his grown daughter and the two men he rescued when they were living on the streets, he longs to meet a woman he can love. Living in the Montana territory where men greatly outnumber women makes finding a new wife difficult. Weary of working cattle, he is ready to make some changes in his life.

Grace falls ill on her journey, but she manages to make it to the Twin Springs ranch where her brother is supposed to be living. Adam takes her in, concerned for her health and the reason she’s searching for one of his adopted sons. Their chemistry is immediate and intense, but can Grace heal from her past of pain and fear? When her secrets are finally revealed, can Adam forgive her deceptions and learn to love again?

I don't even want those for free, if they are topaz.

I just run them through Calibre and pretty them up if that doesn't work I can OCR the SVG images in ABBYY Fine Reader. To me it's worth it for these the price. I love her books. It's been forever since I read one but I had several of hers in my late teens.

I can't do that unfortunately. I can't do anything with Topaz. So I try not to get them. Thankfully there hadn't been a lot since quite a while, not until Montlake bought those publisher books. Now they are all over the montlake titles and I have to be so careful.
I shouldn't have to worry about not being able to read a book. I just want to enjoy them. The sample of the Bobbi Smith one I had my eye on looks atrocious. Looks worst than some of my paperbooks that are 40 years old.

I hope people buy them, see how horrible they are and return them or tell amazon and then maybe they'll fix that mess.

I use "The Tools" to liberate my topaz books sometimes it converts okay to text and sometimes it needs alot of work fixing it up.

The Wanton Splendor is very readable on my Kindle Fire as is However Forbidden Fires font is not as readable too much like paperback font and on a ereader it just looks ugly!

The biggest thing with Topaz conversion for me is I feel compelled to go through and proof against the images putting in italics and em dashes & stuff where they belong. Takes too long.

I have 3 or 4 I really do want to get converted at some point, but just don't have the extra time (I'd rather read). I'll have some extra time for a while I guess, since I found out I'm layed off as of Monday (after almost 20 years), so maybe I'll finally get some stuff like these conversions done between looking for work/figuring out what to do.

Oh Brian so sorry to hear that!

If you convert the topaz to SVGs using non calibre way you can then use a free program called Prince that will convert the SVG images to PDFs then just merge it to one big PDF and OCR the PDF and the copy usually comes out pretty clean and has italics.

Blossom, sorry about your friend, congrats about your great-nephew (does this word exist) and a little sorry by the problem with his arm (I know the feeling, my older nephew was born deaf, an he had surgery and he hears now, and my younger nephew had kidney surgery with a couple of months).

Here are a couple full length (150-170ish pages) Entangled Indulgence titles for $0.99. Both are new releases.

Sweet Southern Betrayal (Boy are Back in Town #3) by Robin Covington
Kindle | Nook

Quote:
Privileged and ambitious attorney Teague Elliott is on the fast-track to getting everything he wants. All he has to do is stay on the straight and narrow and a high-profile political career is his for the taking. Until he wakes up naked with a Vegas showgirl...

Risa Clay has worked hard to put her showgirl past behind her and start fresh. But she owes ten grand to the wrong people, and to pay off her debt, she agrees to betray a stranger. . .but she ends up with a husband and guilty conscience.

Savvy and determined, she double-crosses the mob, goes on the run, and turns up on Teague's doorstep armed with a dangerous secret, a marriage license, and the power to ruin his well-planned future. She thought using Teague again would be easy, but the passion that exploded between them in Vegas didn't stay in Sin City and betrayal is the last thing on her mind.

Now Teague has to choose between the future he's planned for all his life, or the one with Risa that he can't turn away from
Guardian For Hire (For Hire #2) by Christine Bell
Kindle | Nook

Quote:
Sarabeth Lucking's life is turned upside down when the couples’ retreat she works for winds up embroiled in the biggest scandal of the year. With her reputation in tatters, she can’t imagine things getting worse, until her former co-workers are rubbed out, and a bad-ass, ex-Army Ranger shows up hell-bent on protecting her. She shows him the door, perfectly content with letting him go find someone else to brood over. Right up until her car explodes into a ball of flames...

Gavin McClintock grew up on the streets of Edinburgh, so protecting Dr. Stick-Up-Her-Rear isn't on his bucket list. Still, a promise is a promise, and, after her brush with death, he’s going to do whatever it takes to keep Sarabeth safe. When she finally sheds her librarian-in-mourning look in favor of a sexy new disguise, the revealing clothes and new hairdo bring out the spitfire she's been hiding beneath that shell of propriety. Maybe the doc isn’t the only one in need of protection…
