I think this is the first time I'm ever gonna type a post like this:
I'm still very happy with my Aura. No pinpricks or diamond shaped layer or yellow tint that I can see. Maybe I'm lucky, maybe it's my eyes...
I *almost* feel sorry for Kobo with all the flak around here.

Maybe you're not aware of that, but if you buy a Kobo in store you have 15 days for exchange or refund. Now if you don't have a FNAC close to your place, it may be easier to buy online

My first Aura HD had an uneven screen, what you're calling a pattern, but the second one is great. I don't know if you're willing to try a second Aura, though.

As posted in the French thread, I've played with two displayed devices at FNAC.
Wow, the Aura is so light and small! It's very nice and natural to hold. The word selection is little better than on other devices but still not very good, unless it's only one word that's selected.
At first I was thinking to replace the Aura HD by the Aura, but now that I've seen it if I were to buy one I would probably sell the Aura HD and the Mini. The Aura is seriously getting very close to our awaited Mini Glo.
I don't know what I'll do just yet, but if I decide to buy one it will be around the end of the year or the beginning of next. But first, I'd like to get an update on the Aura HD to see what are the new features

Where in NL you bought the Aura? I've 1 pinhole (I don't actually see it if not looking for it) but that yellow thing on the top is bothering my eyes. I got mine from Wehkamp because I can do the acceptgiro (means I don't have to pay yet) and has 2 weeks to return, which means I can keep on changing until I found a perfect one (to me). Tho I am only going to do twice...

I'm crossing my fingers that tomorrow I'll get a good one, or else I am tempted to try Coolblue as well.

Btw, this might be a very stupid question... but I believe I am missing the Beyond the Book feature? The firmware I have is 2.9.0. Or is this feature only works on books purchased from Kobo?

Well, after looking at the last Aura I bought this is really a keeper.

The pattern at the top of the screen is invisible unless I hold it at just the right angle in direct sunlight, which is something that I do not do anyway.

No pinholes or light leakage and the text is sharp enough for me as well.

Strange to note that page turns are actually very slightly slower than my old Touch, interesting but not enough to notice unless they are side by side.

So at least Kobo have sold one

It just doesn't seem to be working with most books at this time from what I can tell. I presume it will only get better over time. I'm not sure, but I strongly suspect this feature will only work with Kobo kepub's.

If you want a limited example of how it works just download a free preview of any Michael Connelly book.

If you buy in the store and return an item, you only get a credit note (to use in the next 3 months), not your money back. Since I do not buy that many things in the Fnac, a credit note was not an acceptable option for me.
Hence the online order. Even though I do have a Fnac in my vicinity.

CHocky> your picture looks like the problem I had with my Aura. Hard to see on a picture, but it also gave a feeling of "depth" to the screen which made it hard to focus on the text.

Anyway, I brought it back and ordered a Glo instead. Fingers crossed...

Anybody else having the freezing issue?

My replacement aura is doing it too, this more than the pin pricks is a show stopper now, just went to use it for the first time in a few days and it is freezing again. Book opens, header and footer are visible with 'loading chapter...' In the footer but the page never loads.

I think I've had enough now.

For the week that I had it, it froze up four times. This only happened when I was doing a wifi sync.

I have an EPUB library base and a Kobo Touch and thought this was a good year to upgrade... Not to be from what I'm reading. Not a good start for the Aura, dissapointing Sony PRS T3 (both upgrade and US distribuition and support). I will wait and see what Barnes and Noble comes up with. But so far, Kindle Paperwhite 2 (even if it implies a switch to their proprietary format) may be the way to go. Too bad, I really would like to see Kobo succeed. The ereader market in the US needs some competition.
