Is that when the disk icon pops up in the middle of the screen as it saves the drawing to a file? Or does it happen at other times?

The disk icon pops up only if the stylus is away from the screen for 4 sec. If you are drawing a continuous line, the disk icon cannot pop up. Simply start drawing a continuous line (a zig-zagging line would make it more obvious) without lifting the stylus from the screen and in about 8-10 sec there is a short freeze and the two points are being connected by a straight line (during the freeze you still don't lift the stylus from the screen but continue zig-zagging). For the test i generated some blank PDF pages.

I don't know where the bottlenecks of the hardware are, so i don't know if this could be fixed. But if continuous scribbling is possible on the EEE Note (624MHz Marvell ARM11 CPU), maybe it could also be implemented on the jetbook too.

What did you expect from the ONYX M92 that you didn't get? (This is not a rhetorical question, i'm really interested in your opinion since you've obviously had some experience with the device)

As far as i can see from the videos on the web, the firmware of the M92 is much more advanced than this on the Jetbook color, for example.

Unlike iRex, Ectaco has different revenue from other devices,like translation devices. Also unlike iRex, Ectaco has a govt contract with russian schools,so they are almost 'guaranteed' to get pay.
Also Ectaco has a good 5 totally different e-reader devices out there; so chances of ectaco going bankrupt is way smaller!

And they have to live upto our expectations, because they have not only us (the regular customer) to think of, but also the schools,which have many devices!

You don't get my guarantee of them surviving, but they survived the first ebook reader generation, where many failed (where today only a few companies still make those 5-6" ebook readers).

I think they saw the potential of Plastic Logics, something that's been hovering in the air for over 4 years, and finally made something of it, stuck with it, and gotten the hardware,and somewhat of the software ready.

If you compare companies, then compare Microsoft!
Usually their beginning products totally suck, and are full of bugs, and by the end of their lifetime, they actually do work good! (think Win Vista, turning into 7; and 2000/me turning into WinXP, which still a lot of users and businesses are using today).

I'm not expecting the Jetbook Color to be the perfect device for everyone.
I just think we'll see a very good device out there, with lots of options!
Something similar is very hard to find in other brands today.

I also expect Ectaco not to sit still, and continue to develop! Perhaps there will be a Jetbook Color Light in the future, which may be more aimed towards other fields (better color display, less school software, but better book software)...
Such a device would most likely also cost less.
It's almost a guarantee you'll be finding similar readers like the Jetbook Color,for less than $300 a few years from now!
A few years go by really fast! Netbooks where unheard of 5 years ago, and todays netbook is more than 4 times better than the first generation netbooks!

Amazon hasn't been able to make a decent pdf reader out of DXG, it's never been updated even if it cannot do any reflow on pdf. That's ridiculous for a 9,7". Being a Kindle lover, you should know how lame is the DXG firmware, for a 379 dollars device.

No 9,7" with touch that I know has been developed like it should have been. enTourage ran ot of business like iRex, 903 has been left, Asus dr900 was born in Beta and is dying in beta, Boox M91S, we know...

I don't think Ectaco will shut down, but it's reasonable to think that the development of JBC is bound to how much it will sell. Even the giant Amazon hasn't been able to sell a good amount of DXG, at least not enough to invest in its developement (Or maybe it just shamelessly speculated on buyers trust.)

In the end, you should just adddress your complaint to the ultra-consumerism ideology and its obvious consequences. Only problem is that debating over this HOLY topic (the Market God) from inside an ultra-consumerist society, is hard . Our own market-talibans' eyes won't accept any deviance from the 'Semper Buy' holy teaching.

They have not done it, but of course that does not mean they are unable.
One reason they are not that interested might be that these readers don't generate profits via booksales.
That in my opinion gives Ectaco an edge in this segment of the market: school books.

The firmware update files and instructions have been changed(again) and the firmware is now r1128 Spanish. This time it comes with a shed load of educational textbooks.

You spend 500$ for a device, you are sold hopes for March 1st and April 1st (he he), you do not get a browser and wifi although this is advertised initially and you say that M92 disappointed? I am an M92 user and I can be biased but this is ... ridiculous indeed

Actually there is a WiFi menu but it's not activated...hence here comes my optimism - April release

As of now, the scribbling keeps me satisfied, and the reflow for pdfs is pretty nice (tested it last night on a new set of papers my prof sent out)

Check out the site, apparently there was a new update posted on March 7th (aka today) and it's Spanish - how do i know? Because i just downloaded it lol
