I didn't recognize the first quote, but the other two are from The Fantastic Mr Fox I think.

Bilbo1967 has it. I'm not entirely sure if the first quote is actually from the book. It was listed on Goodreads' Roald Dahl quotes and was in one of my favorite scenes from the movie where Mr. Fox is talking with his lawyer about buying the house.

OK, next one;
"The bank is something more than men, I tell you. It's the monster. Men made it, but they can't control it." Last edited by Bilbo1967; 10-06-2011 at 05:58 PM. |

Sounds anti capitalist, so I'll go with the Communist Manifesto even though I haven't read it.

Nope - one more non-obvious quote then I'll start making it easier (unless Daithi jumps in);
"Man, unlike any other thing organic or inorganic in the universe, grows beyond his work, walks up the stairs of his concepts, emerges ahead of his accomplishments." |

In my opinion the author is one of the greatest authors of the 20th century. He ranks right up there with Hemingway, Faulkner, Joyce, and Woolf (and I don't even care for Faulkner, Joyce, and Woolf). Last edited by Daithi; 10-07-2011 at 10:48 AM. |

Here you go. The asterisks were in the copy I have, so I suppose they were placed there by the author. Not hard to guess the word he meant, since it's a poetic work.
