Right now I'm debating making Scotch Pancakes/Drop Scones/Pikelets (depending on where in the world you are), and writing a Hugo & Lefty story. On paper (for the first draft). With a fountain pen dating back to 1935.

(The link has some of my favourite recipe instructions ever:
Quote:
1. First grease your girdle
...
3. Crack the egg into the milk (best not to try doing this into the bottle),
...
5. Test that the girdle is hot enough by putting a teaspoonsworth of batter onto it. You should have a fairy-size pancake cooked for you in less than a minute.

which definitely qualifies as indoor.

but i am sure that none of them have been as strange as Wood's Pandemonium Carnival.
The one I went to as a child was in Blackpool Tower (picture below). It was a Big Top performance, the kind of Barnum & Bailey routine, with performing animals and the like (which always disturbed me, even as a child). But there were, from time to time, outdoor Big Top Circuse's that came to my area, and that I never attended. Those were under actual Canvas tents, with sawdust on the floor and the like. What we actually got a lot of was Travelling Fairs, and still do to this day, with rides and goldfish in little plastic bags and shoot the water into the clowns mouth.

Oh, and the "acts" on show at Wood's Pandemonium Carnivale are of the like that has never been seen before -- Roll Up! Roll Up!

Oh yes, one of the greatest books ever written, and also by the man I class as I my writing mentor, Ray Bradbury. I owe a lot to his opening my eyes to the lyrcial quality of fiction, and the courage to write about what I'm passionate about.

If there's any writer I would most like to be compared to, and find it an honour, it would be Ray Bradbury

i only go to see "cirque nouveau" which doesn't (usually) include animal acts ; they disturb me too. cirque nouveau is based on the traditional circus disciplines (acroabatie, trapeze / aériens, juggling, clowns...) but adds in some theater and dance and more music, and whereas traditional circus (which i have utmost respect for, although it's not what i prefer) is about the daring exploit, cirque nouveau is usually more about telling a story, and is usually more modest than the huge las vegas-esque productions, but more poetic and magical. i bet you would love it.

i have no trouble believing that the acts on show at Wood's Pandemonium Carnivale have never been seen before.

We get the travelling version of the Cirque du Soleil every year. It's always under the big top tent(s). It's always a treat, but Wood's Pandemonium Carnival sounds like great fun.

That kind of circus sounds perfect to me. The animal thing always disturbed me, even though I'm not a vegetarian or a vegan like some of my close friends, I still don't like seeing animals mistreated for entertainment. Especially elephants. When I saw those elephants as a kid I became extremely sad and asked to be taken home. There's something in an elephant's eyes that is melachonlic, even more so when they're being dressed up and paraded about.

I went to see La Machine when they came to Liverpool, and that was amazing, the giant spider climbing up the side of the building floored me, I couldn't stop looking at the thing. I suppose that's what I picture in my head now when I think of Circuses, and I'd hope if animals were needed they could do something along those lines in the future instead of actual animals (but they're not in Wood's Pandemonium Carnivale).

He and Aldous Huxley had quite a profound effect on me in school (well, their books, anyway...)

D'you know if any of Bradbury's books are available as ebooks? I only seem to be able to find audio books

I'm editing now, and I have about 8 of the 16 from Suggest a Story thread done in first draft. I'm hoping to release it on Monday (fingers crossed and if nothing else gets in the way) under the title: Suggested Oddities.

There are very few. Mr. Bradbury hates ebooks with a passion, and I think it may be his doing that so much of his work is not available. You can get them from *other* sources, but not the complete collection. I had to buy his latest collection of short stories "We'll Always Have Paris" in hardback.

I didn't, although I have a friend who raves about it all the time, and he said he'd lend me the DVD boxset. I should really watch it, because one of my favourite actresses (and I also have a bit of crush on her from when she was in The Faculty) Clea Duvall stars in it.

Clea DuVall was excellent in the series. Her character Sofie read tarot cards at the carnival. Very spooky. Every character was well acted. A shame the series ended after 2 years, it was leading to a great climax.
