Which reminds me of a question I've always wanted to ask from our honored native English speakers: when, exactly (or approximately) is "Midsummer Night"?

In France there was traditionally a celebration at the summer solstice (la Saint Jean), now instead we have La fête de la musique, which is supposed to be an urban equivalent as a time for everyone to rejoice and be merry. Insert preferred well-wishing politically correct term here. In France "festif" is a favorite, with "convivial" a close second. Personally I would go for "noisy"

Don't worry about details. English have always had funny ideas about the whole thing of flowers and bees.

Started off warm and sunny, so came into work without a coat. Now grey, overcast and spitting. Getting into practise for next week I guess (Wimbledon fortnight. And I only know that because it's the oldies tennis week this week where my husband works. Although last year Nadal turned up, too...)

count yourself lucky. we just had another cataclysmic thunderstorm (although to be fair it looks like there is now a ray of light piercing the clouds). i almost shut down the computer, but i had work to do, so i decided to live dangerously. every time there was thunder the shums in the schoolyard would all scream. unfortunately, i'm pretty sure it's not because they were actually struck by lightning.

Did the screams decrease in volume each time? If so, they might've been being hit...

on the contrary, they actually seem to get continually louder. i really don't know how they do it ; you'd think there would be a limit to how much noise they can generate.
