You can easily change a non DRM kepub to an Epub. In the spoiler box are the directions how (they're too long for this thread and it's off topic). There's also a link to the thread I started on it in the Kobo devices sub-forum.

Kobo gave me a credit only also - but as I'd converted the book to Epub (and put into Calibre) I just asked them to notify when the Epub version would be available and give me that. That was way too hard for them to do and they told me that I would need to keep checking the site!!

Yes, when this first happened, I searched the forums and found the solution you refer to. The problem is that the ebook doesn't download or even appear at all in the Kobo Desktop app. So there is no kepub file that I can convert.

Did they ever make your book available as an epub? Is that what usually happens with newer ebooks from Kobo - eventually they're made available as epubs?

I kinda hate to just settle for a refund/credit because I used the 80% off code for this book.

Ahhh what a bother that you couldn't find the book in C:\Users\user_name\AppData\Local\Kobo\Kobo Desktop Edition\kepub

They've never notified me if it became an epub, they thought the matter settled by issuing me a credit.

I never got the opportunity to download the book either - there was no 'download' link at all. But it was in the C: file.

The Goldfinch ebook is available for sale outside of the US (even to South Africa), so I'm not sure why it's not showing up in your country.

I've had this before. If you are not logged in then it is IP based, if you are logged in it depends on your billing info.

Some regions experience it more than others but the problem is that when doing searches if something isn't available for your region it just doesn't show up normally (which is why few people experience it). It only happens when you follow a direct link to the specific book page.

See my post above. I had to create a new US account, log in AND change my IP, all to be able to view a title. I experimented, and logging in or changing the IP on their own did not solve the issue. Only logging in AND changing IP worked.

Oh, I don't doubt it. For example, for ordering devices they check your IP and your account settings. For books it's normally as I said, only using one or the other depending on if you're logged in or not. Out of curiousity, is this on the new page or the old one? I haven't experienced IP restrictions when logged in for books on both the old and new sites.

I have needed to use a VPN to find some books on Kobo for a long time. I dont often usually see a message saying its not available, the books simply dont show up on the site at all.
For example I can search for an author and get 100 results. But if I search again using a VPN, I get 110 results.

Old and new. I only get the old site in Hong Kong. I get the new site when I log in with my USA-address account, with or without VPN. Using VPN still does not get me the book in the Hong Kong (old) site. With VPN does get me the book in the USA (new) site. But I don't think it's old vs. new site that's the issue--it really seems it's the IP address PLUS billing address in tandem.

Are the books discountable? Most books from major publishers aren't discountable in many regions and the "show eligible" filter on Kobo's website is not accurate.
