I went on a tea-finding expedition today, and had success! (The grocery stores around me do not carry loose tea, I've found.) This is what I got, mostly at TJ Maxx (a kind of a gift/overstock type store for those unfamiliar with it):
Wedgwood English Breakfast, in a nice little blue tin Twinings Jasmine Tea, green tea Boston Tea Company Ceylon Symphony, black tea Boston Tea Company Oriental Treasure, green tea Numi Flowering Tea, "Flower Jewel," white tea with jasmine Nourishtea Company, Yummy Chai ( ![]() Best part was that it was all pretty inexpensive there. Can't buy anymore for a while, though, because I'm supposed to be watching my pennies until I see how this retirement thing pans out... Anyway, I was tickled to see the flowering tea because that's something I wanted to try. I took it over to my mom's house (she is not a tea drinker normally) because I thought she would get a kick out of it. Indeed, we both enjoyed watching the flower unfold, and the white tea was pretty enjoyable. Mom even enjoyed it enough that I left a couple of pods over there. That was my day, in the "what's in your cup?" world. |

As the weather turns colder, I return to drinking lapsang souchong - I tend to associate foods & beverages with outdoor temps - and this tea is definitely a cold weather drink. Drink it straight - no milk or sugar or lemon - sometimes with a dollop of single malt.

Yesterday I stayed at home and had more time for brewing and drinking tea. In the morning I made Keemun 3 times and enjoyed it very much. Found again the flavors and the sensations, although I realized that enjoying tea requires a special kind of suspended concentration, as flavors tend to be rather ... watered down(?). Very relaxing.
In the afternoon I thought of Am and made a cup of Assam with milk and a blittle bit of sugar and found it a very good drink. I just made breakfast. I made a big cup of Ceylon with it.Temperature plays its role also. I have to wait a little before drinking it. Is it the ancient Russians who were sipping their coffee from the saucer, with a lump of sugar crystal between their teeth, while madly galloping across the steppe, and ... Nah, these things we leave them to our excellent certified motor bike champion. ![]() Excellent cup of tea. Fantastic breakfast. Put me in the right mood if could just stay at home again and fool around, but ... the call of duty. Good day to all. Last edited by beppe; 11-18-2010 at 01:43 AM. |

I loved that too. And you would have cracked up at my 90 year old mom, who I don't believe has ever voluntarily had hot tea in her life, sipping it and saying (in surprise), "This doesn't really taste like tea. This is kind of nice..."
I thought I'd leave some over there so we could have that little soothing ceremony of watching the flowers when she needs to settle down a bit. Sometimes she gets a little anxious. |
