For the N236 Aura Edition 2 owners, I informed Kobo about a potential issue. The response was that they are aware of the issue and working on it.

I've written up a suggested recovery procedure for a Kobo N236 Aura Edition 2 that is stuck on the boot screen (3 dots). See: Suggested recovery procedure. This may also work for other Kobo ereaders, after the first steps, follow the manual factory reset for that model.

I have a Kobo Aura Edition 2 (Model N236).

My device is stuck in a boot loop (three dots animation) and is no longer recognized via USB.



Could someone please share with me the correct microSD card image for this model?

My serial number starts with N3266 , so I believe this is the Mark 6 version. Probably version 2.1

My Kobo Libra 2 bricked itself while doing an update. Not it's stuck in the 3 dots loop. Tried hard resetting it but it only just turns off the device and the loop continues after turning on again.

Before you try re-imaging your device, there is a procedure which has been reported to have worked for several Kobo ereaders where they boot looped after a failed update. It was intended for the Kobo N236 Aura Edition 2 but if you substitute the factory reset procedure for your Kobo reader, it seems to have worked for several people. See the Suggested recovery procedure message in the stickies in the Kobo Reader forum.

My Kobo N236 Aura Edition 2 is frozen.
I have tried the recovery procedure without sucess. The screen displays the three dots but they are frozen and nothing hapen when I press the power button for a long or short time.

Could someone share me an image please ?

PS: I don't know if it is a V1 or V2.

That is why you hold the power button for 20 seconds. This should force your Aura E2 into a powered off state regardless of what the screen shows. Remember that an eInk screen is bistable, you need to write to it to change it.

I would suggest following the procedure in the Suggested recovery procedure. Remember to allow it to charge for an hour before starting and leave the power cable plugged in during the procedure.
