Mostly because the protagonist was kind of annoying (and a terrible person), but this is what cinched it:

Protagonist: OK.
Protagonist: goes and confronts that woman in front of at least five other people I KNOW ABOUT YOUR AFFAIR WITH THE MURDERED DUDE'S WIFE!!

I don't think I'll continue past the first book.

What series is this? Sounds like one I'd want to avoid.

Until your family decides to euthanize you for some stupid reason (like moving or having a baby - I've met plenty of people who've wanted to get rid of their pet and made such an excuse).

No, I wouldn't want to be a pet. Too many downright stupid and uncaring owners for that.

I never need to read prolonged sex scenes or graphic sex scenes. I’ve been chugging along in what was for me a four-star read based on concept and inventiveness and then ugh. And close to the end, too. I may not recover.

Is this one of those series where too many murders happen in too small a place to be realistic? As to the cover art, I'd find it much better if the cat was replaced with a Pug.

Yeah, no kidding, but Midsomer has to be right behind it! (Or possibly ahead of it, given how long MM has been running--but fewer epis per season. so...)

Slightly O/T: I once stopped seeing a much-beloved, AMAZING hairdresser, who performed miracles with my very difficult hair--because she gave her cat BACK to the no-kill shelter from which she'd gotten it, b/c her new boyfriend pretended he was "allergic" to cats (yeah, right, the guy was a total d*ck and yes, I met him) and she got preggers and insisted on believing in Toxoplasmosis, even though I told her she could work around it. That was it for me.

Indeed. But somehow, someway, Midsomer continues on. I freely admit I like it far less without the original cast, but nonetheless, I watch it. (What's curious is that it is SO, so so much more likeable than the original books!) As far as Jessica, hell, yes, I don't even want to be in the same county as her, much less town. Everywhere that woman goes....

I'm told that Sutton, however, is lovely and that La Rumeur Affamee (which apparently is the inspiration for Sarah's, in the books) is TDF (to die for). I wonder if it survived Covid?
