No, the message was that many thought that for the main destination of the device a sluggish CPU can even be a good thing. Unless your statement is that in 2018 we have CPUs that do the same of the RK3288 for a fraction of the battery.

I have not checked personally, but it seems that the Onyx pen input and the input expected by OneNote and other similar applications are not the same. So, the pen is very fast on the Onyx note-taking application and very slow on the leading 3rd party.

I hope Onyx will find a way to promote their SDK's to the Android developers because their pen works really well, I was very surprised when I tested it even if I don't use it too much (I used a pen before to correct the notes in the music sheets), is by far much better than the Samsung pen I use with my Galaxy TABPRO S, the difference is abysmal in favor to Onyx and in the Onyx I don't need to worry about to charge it like the Samsung's one but in Windows there is not the compatibility issue like Android has with apps, in this sense, Windows is much better. We need root in this device ASAP!!! in standby it drains battery, not so much but I think is a lot for a device that is marketed as long lasting battery...

The PDF experience tends to be quite poor on the Kobo Aura One. It can be improved somewhat by installing the Koreader software and using that to read PDFs. However, that also has its limitations. But, of course, the Kobo Aura One isn't a tablet, and expecting it to act like one will inevitably lead to frustration and disappointment. I am quite happy with my KA1 and find that it does the job it was designed for, displaying kepubs, quite well. Through patching and installing other firmware, its functionality can be expanded, but it will never perform like a tablet. Similarly, the Note is not a tablet. It is an enhanced ereader. It is a hybrid device which has some of the functionalities of a tablet, but which also carries with it some of the limitations, as well the advantages of an ereader. Although there are certainly some bugs which need ironing out, the Note is a truly remarkable device with a lot of potential. I think the problem is that some people are listening to the hyperbole of certain "reviewers" and are expecting it to perform like a tablet. That is a mistake and will inevitably lead to disappointment. Although one might conceivably be able to install millions of apps, the vast majority of those apps will not function properly. However, if one purchases the Note knowing that it is a hybrid device and sets one's expectations accordingly, the potential and usefulness of this device becomes much more apparent. That is why I think that many of us are currently quite happy and excited about the Note despite its current limitations. Indeed, I haven't used my KA1 since my Note arrived. I expect that my Note will now become my primary reader. I will probably reserve my KA1 for reading kepubs in Japanese. At least until I find an app that can handle Japanese as well as it can. |

Sometimes, opening a book took a while. However, never experienced a problem with page turns. Perhaps that's because I'm such a slow reader. Guess it just moved along at my leisurely speed. But I do agree that the experience on the Note is better for most things and it offers so much more potential for doing other things. |

I seemed to stumble into root. I installed the King Root app, but it initially failed to root. I tried a few other methods as well. Nothing. The next day, I checked my Note and found that I now had root access. Did the King Root app keep phoning home until someone found an exploit to root the thing? Anyway, I deleted King Root and installed SuperSU.
I wish I could give you a step-by-step process as to how to achieve it, but I can't. As I said, I seemed to stumble into root. Maybe someone else can. Most conventional rooting techniques do not seem to work on the Note or the Max 2. There is no custom recovery (yet) for the Note, so nothing can be flashed to root the Note. I emailed Booxtor, and in his reply, he said he would try to root the Note as soon as he had one he could spare from stock. I haven't yet done much with my root yet, other than install Titanium Backup and the root version of Button Savior. I might try a CPU app, like No Frills CPU Control, and do some minor tweaking. One advantage to having used Android E-Ink devices before is that I already have a sense of what apps look fine on E-Ink, and which ones have invisible menus on E-Ink. XDA is normally the place to go for help from devs, but there has never been much interest over there in Onyx devices. Not yet, at least. Having had several Android E-Ink devices before, I can say that the Note (in spite of any limitations/bugs it may have) has come closer to realizing the potential of Android E-Ink than any device I've ever tried. The combination of size and performance makes the Note feel "just right" to me: large enough for pdfs, but light enough to do a lot of book reading. The Note is quicker than any 6 inch Android E-Ink device I've seen. For my needs, the Note is, if not a bull's eye, pretty darn close. |

I will try to do the same, I need BatteryStat to run in Note because I want to understand what is draining the battery in stand-by, if its the kernel, firmware or some app...

You can try BetterBatteryStats. It's $2.49, but you can run it on an unrooted device using some provided adb commands.
Edit: Moreover, I installed Nova Launcher, What that allows me to do is that, when I open Nova, and then check out the app drawer and go into settings, I can access more settings than on the Onyx launcher. One of those settings is Battery Saver, which normally is part of Marshmallow. That may help as well. Last edited by downeaster59; 04-21-2018 at 10:00 PM. |

There is also the hidden settings app, at least here on android 4.
