I'm actually in the pro-library camp and what I said was that until a pilot program last year Hachette did not allow libraries access to their first run books. Since your library (NYC) is the one with the pilot program it's not surprising you found some Hachette titles there. This year Hachette expanded access to other libraries via Overdrive, so a few more will have the new Rowling book (not mine as yet).

That is kind of a sucky reason for not buying from Target.

Amazon and Hachette are large coorporations who are trying to maximize their profits. This leads to contract disputes that they have to work out.

If you don't like Amazon's position and choose to boycott Amazon over it goodie. If you want to explain to people why you are not buying from Amazon, great. But a blanket statement that people should buy the book from someplace else is kind of silly.

I seriously doubt Hachette is negotiating with the best interest of the buying public in mind. They want to make more money. They are not likely to pass those increased profits to their authors or savings on to readers.

So it is a matter of who you think is more deserving of the money or who you think is going to allow you to maximize your own well being. I'll take Amazon because I like spending less.

This is not about boycotting Amazon. This is about boycotting buying Hachette books from Amazon. If Amazon wants to be childish and play stupid games, let them lose the business. I do highly suggest people take their business elsewhere to get Hachette books.

I borrowed via 3M, and Axis360 is also offering it.

I don't have a way to count how many US libraries are, five days after publication, offering it through 3M and Axis 360. But the Overdrive library (including branches) count is 972, as can be seen by typing the words:

Since you mention you are from the Land of the Loonie, I'll also note that entering Canada in the same Overdrive block returned 179 physical libraries offering the eBook.

Perhaps I'm missing something, but I don't see anything that says that big pub makes outs at $10. The article talks about what price point people buy the most books at, not what price point the big publishers make money at.
