I have a decent PW1 (my third one btw) but I have pre ordered the PW2, I have a 'need' to see it for myself, I have already decided however that if I get a dud I'll just return it and sit on my hands. I'm not going down the replacement route this time

I told myself the same, and here I am, waiting for my replacement!
My PW1 is not even decent, it was just the least bad one of all the ones I received, so the reason to upgrade now is to get a close to perfect screen, since I assume most software additions will get to the PW1 eventually.

I, too, have a decent PW1, but that was after 6 different versions. I was happy with the original, but wanted to check out the new PW. I picked one up from BB last night and am very happy with the new one.

I never had an issue with my PW1. I noticed a couple things about the PW2-it is heavier, it is a little thicker (my old cover, which shut off the PW1 when I closed the cover doesn't work, although it fits). I don't really notice the difference in the light. But the one thing I noticed is the background is much, much whiter.

I have to say I am a little sorry I bought it. I loved my PW1, and the PW2 is just not enough different to make shelling out another $120 worth it. I know Amazon has a 30 day return policy, but it doesn't seem right to make them take the hit (it would have to be sold as refurbished) instead of me. Now for the Kindle HDX, I am getting it because of the ability to download Prime movies--if they bring that feature to the HD, I will be in the same position-buyer's remorse.

Thanks hon. I'm ok with it really. I returned it on my lunch hour and I'm fine going back to using my PW1. I'll see what next year brings. Best of luck with your new one! I really hope it's perfect.

Mine's going back to Amazon.

My (and my better half's) PW2s were delivered yesterday. As soon as I turned mine on, I noticed a blotchy green area in the lower left of the screen, and generally uneven lighting across the entire bottom of the screen. I turned the light setting down from 22 to around 10, which improved the situation, but I can still see the uneven lighting.

On the other hand, my better half's is almost perfect (as Napolean Dynamite would say: luuucky).

I love the touch-screen and the software improvements compared to my K3, so eventually, I expect I'll order another PW2. Someone here said that she was going to wait until the 3rd or 4th batch in the hopes that any initial manufacturing kinks would be worked out by then. I might do the same--but, how do you know when a new "batch" is being made/delivered?

You don't, really. Mine is perfect, your wife's is perfect, many more are perfect, so why not just order another one now and see if you get a perfect one?

I'm trying to decide if it is worth it to return mine which does have some stage lighting effect on the bottom in hope of getting a better one, but if they all have that then it's not worth it. What do you consider a perfect PW2?

Some shadows is normal, that is how they are made! I will upload a picture of mine.

Here is my PW2 (left) and PW1 (right) both with the lights all the way up.

Mine didn't have it, but I returned it for other issues so can't take a pic, sorry.

For me I consider a perfect PW one without color hues, pinholes, and specks under the screen. The stage lighting doesn't bother me at all on my PW1, but my PW2 didn't have it all. The light was very even.

Like Booklover said it is normal with this LED lightning. Under certain ambient light you will not see it. Amazon had an explanation for the PW1, they added it to the PW1 order page after many complaints and returns:

"Under certain lighting conditions, the illumination at the bottom of the screen from the built-in light is not perfectly even. See examples of how the screen looks in different lighting conditions. These variations are normal and are located primarily in the margin where text is not present. The illumination is more even than that created by a book light or lighted cover. The contrast, resolution and illumination of the Paperwhite display is a significant step-up from our prior generation. "

I am not returning mine because I could not deal with the colored blobs or pin holes which my current PW2 does not have.
