I recently spent ten days on vacation, traveling up & around the state of California. I took both my Sony PRS-300 and my new iTouch 4G. --- I never took the Sony out of the bag. I am still surprised this was so.
The iTouch 4G, with its remarkable screen, is the better reading tool: I could read until my wife woke up without disturbing her sleep (no light needed). Except in direct sunlight, in which I did not read, the 4G screen is clearer, sharper and page turns are much quicker. All I needed was a pair of +2.00 reading glasses and the iTouch 4G. It was a surprise, and a very pleasant one. I bought the 4G for its other features, which are constantly surprising, useful and wonderful to boot. I did not expect it to be so good for reading. The new screen and excellent reading software (iBooks, Stanza, BeamItDown, etc.) all work better than anything else I have seen including my Sony's and the Kindle. I wonder if Apple is considering a larger version with the "Retina" screen. I can only imagine what sort of salivation is taking place amongst Grad students and their professors over the thought that there might be an iTouch with a "Retina" display large enough to be useful with PDF files! Such folks would find a way to pay the $1K or so required --- I know I would. Joe |

Tubemonkey: "The touch is too small to read from."
Really??? While I am very happy with my BEBOOK Mini's screen, I read books more and more on my iPod (3G): the iPod is always in my pocket, the screen is backlit, it is very good and it is big enough. The n810 screen is bigger, but that only means that I prefer to carry the iPod. All three are very good for one-handed reading. I have read ebooks since the very early 90ies on PDAs (well, from long before they were called PDAs), so the iPod screen is luxury. ![]() |

I don't have a problem with the screen size of the iPod. Before I bought it I thought it would be too small for extended reading. After using it for a while I found that not to be the case. What I found that I didn't like about using the iPod for extended reading is that it has to be charged too often. That's one of the reasons I'm not interested in the NookColor... I don't want another device that has to be charged every day.
