The main problem indeed is that we don't have an array of 50 CF cards here to test all possible models

There was absolutly no problem with these cards in 2.7, seems like V2.8 introduced the bug

ahem... doesn't that cost less $$$ (or €€€ in your case?) than a day of a competent programmers time?

I can understand that it is a PITA to test lots of cards, but buying them is not expensive for iRex...

I've found at least one bug that is fixed.

I got my iLiad yesterday with 2.8 and the PIN feature freezed it when used in documents. After upgrading to 2.9 it works fine

Please, allow me some words on the Companion software.

Well, it does a complete backup of the accessible memory on the first USB connect. Makes me wait for backup finishing

But the merge feature is quite nice

Although the UI is very simple it is not always intuitive

[Sorry to the non-WinXP users: I will write nothing more about the Companion software ]

I am migrating my home desktop from WinXP to Linux. Even though it is dual boot I would prefer to try to use Linux for the most part exclusively - save for the few things that I have to do on WinXP due to software compatibility.

Has anyone run the iRex Companion software on Wine yet?

The backup is rather slow the first time, for some reason... 5 minutes for 128MB is weird:S

But after the first backup it is quite fast, so I am happy with that. But I don't get the companion software to work with wireless, only with USB - is that the way it is supposed to be?

Also, it is irritating that only the main memory is visible as a usb drive, makes it cumbersome to, e.g., move files from main memory to the CF card

Yep it "works" as far as the GUI and the tray icon is concerned.

I couldn't merge PDFs because no PDF printer was installed, this can possibly be fixed.

The USB detection doesn't work, and automatic maintenance of a SMB share neither.

Mac wireless file transfer?

And what about the Mac users?
How should they transfer files (wireless) from the Mac to the iLiad?
So far I had no results with "windows sharing" activated.
Could you please elaborate a little on that issue?
You seem to have the knowledge-I'm the 'dummy' only.

It worked for me out of the box on the Mac.
I created a new user named iliad to keep my stuff separated, but you don't have to.
I set up the Mac to allow Windows Filesharing, it asked for a password to authenticate windows users. I entered the same password as I use for the iLiad login account.

I figured out my Windows Workgroup (you can do it somewhere in the System Preferences, but it's easier for me to just enter "grep workgroup /etc/smb.conf" in the terminal. (without the quotation marks and potential linebraks) )

Then I entered the information in the iLiad. For the name of the computer I used the IP number of my Powerbook.
The sharename and username are iliad, this might be different for you if you don't set up a special account for the iliad.

Again: this worked on the first try.

and while we're at it:
The iLiad will happily delete files on the computer even if the eReader has insufficient diskspace to save the copy.
