All those warranties are for US customers only.
For the squaretrade one: "It's only available in the U.S. SquareTrade is currently only available to residents of the 50 US states." And the Amazon one: "The 2-Year Extended Warranty for Kindle is only available to U.S.-based customers. " So still nothing for us non-US customers. ![]() |

It's great that they're replacing your kindle. I'm guessing one reason they're not making a fuss about it is that most of their revenues come from ebook purchases, not the kindle itself. They'd rather have you with a kindle in your hands with a registered credit card

I think the kindle is just the means and the books sold are the revenue maker. Like when you buy a printer, the printer is cheap but the ink replacements are the killer.
I am in Australia now and am also getting a replacement as from yesterday. It took three goes to get the postage refunded because the first CS person sent me a UPS label (which aint gonna work in Australia) the second sent me a postage label as though I had changed my mind; and finally the third CS person refunded postage to my credit card. The replacement shipped last night and maybe I might get it Friday. Amazon have the fair use policy and I have heard of broken screens being replaced before, providing they were in a cover. If you buy an Amazon cover then you would be pretty safe. All kindles are covered by the 12 month warranty thing. |

For my case, I called the CS last night and they told me to just post the kindle back to them and email them the tracking number and shipment fee. They said that as long as they can track the package they will immediately refund the shipping cost and start preparing the replacement kindle. Very very happy with the customer service.

After what had happened to my kindle I started "hard-case" hunting. Can't seem to find any on the amazon website. Will the oberon cases provide enough protection for my kindle? I carry my kindle in a messenger bag along with my text books and stuffs and i mostly travel via public transportation which means that it can be crowded at times. Do you guys just carry your kindle insided a cover?

The standard Kindle leather cover is extremely rigid and should provide entirely adequate protection.

You probably didn't drop it, but either smooshed, twisted, or bent it, breaking the screen. They're not very durable devices.
I'm not sure if even an Oberon case would have protected your K3 in whatever incident caused that to break. It might be that between two hard, heavy books would be the safest place in that bag to store a Kindle. I keep mine in the outside pocket of a messenger bag, in either a Belkin or Oberon case. I'm not particularly gentle, but I do make sure not to bend, twist, or let anything hard & heavy hit it. You probably just put the bag down the wrong way, and *CRACK*. I'm curious what you'll do to replace it. Another K3? or maybe an iPad or iPod Touch? One of the drawbacks to the thinness of the Kindle is that it is necessarily a bit more fragile than thicker devices. |

' Howling Wolf'....very nice. I'm waiting for my red Wild Roses cover. Good luck and have fun with your Kindle.
edit: BTW I saw the leather straps of the Oberon cover, cover some of the keys on the lower side: is that a problem for you? Last edited by desertblues; 09-24-2010 at 05:13 AM. Reason: grammar, grammar, question |

I would say that it is a pretty sturdy little device. Like all electronics, it probabl depends on the angle that it was hit at for for screen to break. |
