Absolutely. I don't know about you guys, but I am not happy with the PDF support on the DXG. At times certain files make the Kindle freeze completely. The contrast is often very poor. And it doesn't support password-protected PDFs. Now, these are simply bugs. Yes, I could have returned mine, but I didn't because of what the K3 software promised (and mostly delivers). So, I think all we can do as customers is to continue to (politely) ask Amazon for these new features to be introduced. It's very funny that when I originally complained about the contrast in PDFs, they pretended it was just me. Then of course a few weeks later K3 is announced with...guess what!..contrast option for PDFs.

I would say more, Kindle DXG Software Update should come not only with PDF improvements from K3, but with many NEW PDF improvements. This is what it was designed for, what people buy it for, and this is what people are paying MUCH MORE money for. DXG Update should come with many PDF support improvements, and K3 should offer just basic pdf support.
Amazon is making a mockery of DX Clients, providing the lowest price K3 with PDF support features, and leaving their most expensive, advertised as a great academic tool for pdfs and large documents DX device clients with nothing.

Sent an email to Amazon specifically asking when software version 3.0.x would be available for the DX graphite. Here is the response I received.

The most recent version of Kindle software for Kindle DX is 2.5. The Kindle software update you requested is not currently available for widespread release. We will let you know when it is widely available.

You'll receive the update directly to your Kindle device when it is available.

I hope this information helps. We look forward to seeing you again soon

Yea i got exactly the SAME reponse few days ago. Maybe we should ask different question, not if DX gonna get 3.0 Software but if DX gonna get PDF improvements and when.

Considering that Kindle is linux based I don't think that we should automatically assume that Amazon is the default software provider.

Calibre can help convert some pdf's..

in addition there's also the duokan os which actually adds more formats

The only reason I got my DXG was because of screen size to enable me to read PDF files. It is also being pushed as a PDF reader and the lack of a software update to bring it in line with the cheep K3 is a slap in the face to those of us that need the DX for PDF reading.

I hate to sound like a killjoy but you gotta see it from Amazon's point of view. The Kindle is a much faster seller as compared to the DX. So it only makes business sense to deploy faster service (in this case, updates) to the larger market. They get a good name i.e. Amazon is perceived to have listened to its customers.
In case of the DX they probably do not have large number of units moved, hence they take their time with the support as well since it's not in their 'emergency' radar.

Yeah, but that's exactly the reason most people still hold back on buying DX. The "updated" graphite version is nothing but a recolored copy of the same old hardware with no notable new features and with nearly all of its original shortcomings. If they lowered the price to make it competitive with their own Kindle 3 Wi-Fi, or, much better, gave us less-than-basic PDF support and at least some of K3's features and design improvements, these things would start selling like hotcakes.

True enough the release schedule was strange :

1/ Whether the KDXG was designed for A4 PDF reading, and in this case, there is no reason why it should not have enjoyed the 3.0 firmware enhancements (contrast would be especially nice). I mean, Amazon people knew that K3 had nicer PDF support, so why not develop it for their PDF reader ?

2/ Whether the KDXG was designed to be a bigger K2, and then Amazon is both stupid in terms of business and misleading towards a part of their fan base, mainly academic people who read a lot of A4-formatted documents.

I am globally satisfied with my KDXG although I'm using it from France, have access to english wikipedia only and very few French titles. The PDF support is nice, but there is definitely some room for improvements. For instance, nudging when zooming at 200% is way too uncomfortable, and you have to dezoom and rezoom again to adjust a two-column layer. That's difficult to use and practically reduces to 0 the utility of 200% zooming. If Amazon (or anybody else) tells me that correcting this would be a "new feature", then there is absolutely no doubt that 1/ they're dumping trash on their customers 2/ they will get out of the market, nonetheless their overwhelming presence in the online edition. There is still a huge academic market to develop (so few medical textbooks available !), and if Amazon doesn't want to do it, then please tell us right now !

Cheers,
jdif

I would like to see clear info from amazon, YES or NO for PDF SUPPORT updates for KDXG. I'm afraid that they will leave us with nothing and introduce new KDX 3 (just bigger version of K3) at christmas. If they had intended to introduce Software 3.0 for KDXG, they would have already done it, there is really nothing that could stop them. It has been quite long time since K3 is around. I don't think that they will resigon on KDX product line, so if they didn't give us any update for so long, there may be a new DX device coming.

I suppose the release of the Kindle API for programmers was an intelligent move for Amazon and soon someone will be able to offer a better PDF Reader via kindle Apps.

paying, of course.

I want a new DX firmware as well with the pdf improvements as there are in the Kindle 3 FW,
Amazon, please handle us as descent customers. Better yet, handle us as premium customers as our DX is more expensive then the Kindle 3 after all, so treat us that way!

I think you'll be more effective complaining to Amazon support, not this forum.

Hello,

I am the owner of a Kindle DX Graphite in the UK which I ordered from
the US site. I would like to get a clear answer if possible to the
question of the 'end of life' for this product. I am a bit disappointed
that the Kindle DX Graphite has not been given the 3.0.x firmware, even
though it is a premium product and would benefit more from the PDF
enhancements currently available on the smaller Kindle. If the DX
Graphite is not updated then this will probably be the last Kindle I
will buy, simply because in 2011 I expect products to have decent
support from the manufacturer. My mobile phone for example has already
been updated twice on android, improving many features.

I think with colour e-ink on the horizon along with cheaper android
tablets, Amazons support for its product will really be the deciding
factor for hardware kindles.

Thanks

xxx xxxxxxx

Hello,

I'm sorry the software update above 3.0 is only for the Kindle (Wi-Fi only) and Kindle (Wi-Fi + 3G) models. Thanks for your suggestion regarding color E-Ink on Kindle.

Customer feedback like yours helps us continue to improve the service we provide, and we're glad you took time to write to us. The Kindle Team will carefully review your comments.

Thanks for your interest in Kindle.

Best Regards

Elsewhere in the Kindle forum a firmware update link has been posted for 2.5.X for K2, KDX, KDXG.

Unfortunately they don't appear to have taken the PDF issues into account but have opted for porting down the social networking features of the K3 - which I am sure many here could frankly do without anyway. I have a K3 and never use any of the experimental features or the FB/Twitter stuff.

I can see there will be uproar .....
