I could buy the ePub at Kobo without a problem. A minute of DRM stripping and conversion later I was in business. Which once again proves the stupidity of georestrictions... ![]() |

To give a context I am based in the UK and have no qualms about stripping DRM for my own use. I read mainly SFF and mostly well known authors. So with that in mind this is what I have found:
Amazon.co.uk: good selection and good price (usually the cheapest) WH Smith: good selection and good price (had a half price offer on for a while which made them cheaper than Amazon). Baen and WebScription: Brilliant attitude and price, unfortunately not a very wide selection. When I can, I buy from them just because I like their attitude to how ebooks should be sold. The Book Depository: Nearly everything I want seems to be "out of stock"! Price tends to be high Waterstones: good selection but expensive Kobobooks: maybe I just can't get their search engine to work; if I search for Neal Asher I really don't want to see books by every other author in the world whose names starts with Neal! They seem to have almost none of the authors I want. When I do find something it is generally more expensive than Amazona nd WH Smiths. Fictionwise: poor selection and a little expensive Ebooks.com: poor selection and a little expensive Books on Board: poor selection, good prices I have all of these bookmarked and when looking to buy a book I scan each of them for the best price. |

Supposedly it's only true for pubs who upload through Mobipocket (which all the big publishers and some of the smaller ones do). I'm not even sure if there's another option for the big pubs to upload titles. There's no reason there couldn't be and if pubs wanted to do DRM free they could force Amazon's hand, but I don't think the pubs want to go DRM free.

Amazon now allows (didn't used to) individual authors to skip DRM; it's probably just a matter of time before publishers are offered the same right to control access to their ebooks. |

The ebookshoppe price was £7.59. I bought the book from Amazon.co.uk and I checked and it is still available there for £4.14 which is what I paid for it. When I was buying it I also found it available on several other sites, which ebookprice.info claimed to be checking but didn't find. So I would suggest that their search engine is not actually very good. I haven't tried any other books, this was the first and only book that I tried but as it got this wrong I don't think I would want to rely on this one. |

Now that I've found many sources for the ePub format, I won't criticize Sony for having a terrible store anymore. Also I found a software called Calibre that manages all my ePub books that I would recommend everyone to check out. This community have been great help.
