I've also experienced sluggish page turn twice now. Restarts fixed them, but that clearly isn't a long term solution. Mine seem to be related to trying to use features besides just turning the page. Once was when I was experimenting with highlighting - once was when I bookmarked a page, did a search for a term, then returned to the bookmarked page.

I assume there will be a firmware fix that will address this - there are already some threads about a beta firmware. This is my first Kindle - should I contact Amazon or should I assume the problem has already been adequately reported?

I'd suggest calling Kindle CS, I'm not sure they're aware of this.

At any rate, that's what I'll be doing tomorrow myself, given that restarts/resets don't do a thing, it seems pretty much hardware related.

AFAICT, in my case it also seems to be triggered when the Kindle gets somewhat warmer (ie. after prolonged use, or in the sun). While it usually takes a couple of hours to see this behaviour, yesterday I was reading outside, right under the sun, and 2 minutes later, slow page turns that didn't go away until I went somewhere a bit colder.

My k3 wifi just started doing exactly the same thing after 3 days of flawless performance(Just got it fri morning). Resetting worked once. Putting it to sleep for a short time fixes it-for a short time. A couple of times it just fixed itself for a half dozen page turns or so. All I was doing today when it started was reading a book I got halfway through yesterday. And it started almost as soon as I started reading today. It effects everything not just page turns, even screen savers do a slow appearance.

Will most assuredly be calling cs tomorrow

I just had this happen to me for the first time today, and after the fact I realized that I had been reading in the full sun for the first time. After a few reboots it went back to normal (I was doing this inside). I went back outside to read, and it came back in 5 minutes. I sure hope we don't have another sun fade type issue on our hands!

I did not think about the heat at first as this was all prefaced by a menu that was all out of whack. The menu had many missing characters, or symbols. I had decided to wait to reboot after I was done reading, and 20 minutes later the slow page turns started. This has not come back since the intial reboot. Not sure if the two are related.

Interesting theory. I'm going to test this out tomorrow by leaving my kindle in the sunlight for a few hours. If your right, then it should have slow page turns as soon as I unlock it and use it.

I tested this out today. After 2 minutes in full sun the slow page turns came back. There are quite a few on the Amazon board that confirmed this as well.

Sounds like there is not enough cooling for the chips. This is not going to be fixed by firmware updates. That could need a complete reconfigure of the heat sinks and vents for the kindle.

"Read in Bright Sunlight – No glare". What a loss of face for Amazon if it turns out this is correct. Though I guess they could argue there is, in fact, no glare

I couldn't test because of the overcast today. I've had no problems though haha. Do you think it's all kindles or just some?

And just to confirm, not fixed in the 3.0.1 update, which confirms that it's probably some kind of weird hardware defect. Replacement!

Oh well - I was going to test after installing the patch tomorrow - although I was not too optimistic

After seeing some of the reports here I decided I'd test my K3 3g for its sunlight performance. I set it on the wooden railing on my patio, without the case. Temperature was 91F, 7PM, so the sun was low (maybe 15 degrees above the horizon, so not a lot of sunlight on the device). After 5 minutes, I tried some page turns and sure enough they were very slow, staying black for a couple of seconds between page turns. After taking it back inside and letting it cool off for a few minutes, it went back to normal.

I've had the Kindle for 7 days, no crashes, no freezes, no slow page turns, no problems whatsoever. Makes me wonder if what I'm seeing is a temperature problem. If so, Amazon will be getting a ton of complaints next year when it's beach-reading season.

Or maybe I've just got a bad one. I'll wait a couple of weeks and see how the reports go before I decide whether to call CS about it.

I'm in Texas so it's quite a bit warmer here than most places, but I'd look forward to hearing from others who might want to check out their K3s in a warm environment.

By the way, I'm using the 3.0.1 firmware.

This is why I'm afraid that it's all Kindle 3s that are affected, but it just hasn't been hot enough to affect everyone yet. I asked customer service if I could get a replacement. I'm not very optimistic though.

Slow Page Turn

New firmware, same problem. I get periodic slow page turns. Sometimes a reboot fixes it, sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes it resolves on its own. For me, it still seems related to dictionary usage, or taking notes - not just turning pages.

I have sent CS a detailed email. Has anyone gotten a CS response on this issue?
