RTF support question - Page 3

Are we sure we're all going to the same place? The "Check for Updates" option under "Help" in the ConnSoft desktop application?

Okay I just hooked up my reader and checked for updates. I am still getting the server error, try again later <sigh>

Ah, I went there and just saw that....... We are referring to the updates through the connect software itself.

I did figure that out after about 4 posts ago. Like the rest of you all I get is the server error message -- Reader connected or not.

Okay, and again as of this morning it's still doing it for me. I was playing around trying to see what font and size I like the best so I copied a paragraph from a book and made it arial 18, arial 20..... bookman 18,20, swiss, courier just to see which one I really like the best, LMAO... having a hard time trying to decide. Arial 18 or the swiss is nice, but then bookman works unless it just looks like something else, I can't do a side by side compare, and times new roman is good too.... so I am just as confused as ever, but I saved it and moved it into the reader so I can see there which one appealed to me....... anyway getting off track, checked the update and server error..........

So they must be up to something or they have a big problem of some kind over there. Sure wish I knew what was going on. Yes I am nosey

Well Karen, it is a strange thing, these fonts. Dutch is just Bitstream's name for their version of Times (or Times New Roman if you like.) Likewise, Swiss is Bitstream's name for Ariel (or Helv, or Helvetica.) The basic glyphs (letter shapes) are not protected. The code to make the letters and the names of the fonts are protected. Bookman; however, is a wide open, easy to read font designed for maximam comprehension. The trouble is that on an RTF document loaded to the Reader it comes out as Dutch as the software substitutes the closest resident font to what you used. The only easy way to get it is to use a PDF file with embedded glyphs.

All of the fonts above are proportional. the "l' takes less space than the 'W". Courier is a mono-spaced font where each character takes the same width. Great for old typewriters and computer programming code. It does not provide the greatest reading experience IMHO.

Yea I know courier wasn't the greatest...... probably why I had a hard time deciding which font I liked better, because they were coming out looking the same, LOL.... I do wish though they would let us make choices and have more but what the heck. I just don't understand the pdf thing too much so I just stay away from that like the plaque..... I just want to read my books.
