MyFi is good choice, but it comes with extra monthly fee, capped data plan (in US), and abismal, as Harry mentioned, battery life. I have to keep my plugged in most of the time. Of course, external battery can solve this issue. Something like http://www.newtrent.com/product-p/imp880.htm with extra capacity and option to charge two devices at once.

I have a Verizon Palm Pre Plus that comes with mobile hotspot and I'm connected and browsing with my kindle.
I am at the moment hitting a snag with larger audible books, and am following up with Amazon about it, but it is downloading the smaller ones just fine. |

I wsa very interested in the Palm Pre Plus, but discovered that it isn't on the market in Sweden. I also looked at Amazon.co.uk but they only ship phones within the UK. Bummer. Is it an expensive phone if not tied to a carrier?

Take a look at http://www.expansys.co.uk - they are an excellent company for "tech toys" who are happy to ship anywhere.

It didn't work for me:
I tried to connect my Kindle 3 wirelessly with JoikuSpot on my Nokia N97 but the Kindle complained about not supporting peer-to-peer (i.e. ad-hoc) networks. I suppose it's the same with other clients on Android, Windows Mobile, Palm etc. Any workaround would be welcome. |

I had a similar issue on my new kindle 3 not connecting to my android phone (HTC Desire) The solution however is simple. Download Wifi Analyzer from the market place and also Wifi Connecter Library. After that my kindle connected with no problems. (run the wifi analyzer first just incase its required)
Post here if it works for ya, should work on other android phones i'd imagine, I am rooted but I dont think its a problem either way. *after installing these apps, just connect like you would normally e.g turn on wifi hotspot app* Last edited by docsy; 09-11-2010 at 08:10 AM. |

All Android 2.2s's are not createt equaly. Right now only the Droid X has MiFi ready to go out of box and for a monthly fee. But with other Droid 2.2 devices there are apps on the Market that create a WiFi hot spot and the cell company is none the wiser. It just goes over as regular phone data usage.

I tried everything to get a windows mobile phone (HTC touch pro 2 aka tilt 2) to work. I pay for tethering.
WMWifirouter (aka JoikuSpot for WMobile) doen't work. The developer says its a hardware limitation and that only ad-hoc is possible. There seems to be some hinting that the HTC HD2 will do infrastructure mode (which should work) but no proof and no way to port this to the TP2. I did find a messy workaround. I use conectify on my laptop to create an infrastructure hotspot and then tether my phone to my laptop via USB. Not pretty but it works (of course if I have to have my laptop on I may as well use it, but it does allow me to buy mags and newspapers and have them delivered to my kindle in a pinch.) In the end I think I need to return this thing and get the 3G version. Its just not worth the trouble. |

Its just me but I think you would be much better off with a 3G device if you receive subscriptions. For the casual book buyer they could always run down the the coffee shop or their public library and use the free WiFi to download their orders.
I even prefer buying my books on my PC and telling it to send to my Kindle. Its just easier to navigate on a PC. I have the DX and love it. |

![]() Now Kindle 3's 3G is with AT&T and my current cell phone is not. Should I be in a place where AT&T 3G is weak or non-existent and I want to buy or download a book, I can create a hotspot with my Palm Pre and use it with my Kindle 3's wifi. |

That is excellent, unfortunately Palm has no representation in Sweden (I suppose they might no support a Swedish UI?) but can they be bought without a tie-in to an operator?
