I just looked at one of the docs in internet explorer, and the monospaced fonts are displayed correctly (as you'd expect from an M$ product and word produced HTML file).

In word, I used the "Save as HTML" option in the File menu to create the HTML doc. I don't know if there's a "Cleaner" html available from within word, though.

If you are using Winword XP, there is an option under Save As for filetype "html filtered" or so. Give it a try.
