Dean Koontz did something similar. Of course he didn't die however, there were 4-5 years between the second and third book in his Frankenstein trilogy. I actually quit reading Koontz for several years until the third book came out. Christopher Paolini is doing the same with his Inheritance Cycle books. He has three of them out however, the third and maybe fourth have been delayed for years. This is upsetting to some of the young adults who have followed that series.

I did this with the 7th book of the Harry Potter series. I got it on release day. Blew through like 550 pages in the next day. Told myself to slow down a bit, I was going way too fast. So, of course, I started it over. I did this about 5 or 6 times, always stopping right before the "Battle for Hogwarts" chapter. I just didn't want the series to end. I finally ended up finishing it late last year. Somehow I avoided spoilers that entire time.

Definitely. I've done the slow down towards the end thing, too. I like to think about the book after I've read it to savor it a little longer. If it is a new author, to me, I look up all their other works.
The most irritating, let's take decades to finish the story, author for me is ... George R. R. Martin. I so enjoy reading "A Song of Ice and Fire" and all of the books so far I haven't wanted to end. And it looks like they never will! As far as bookends go, my favorite set came from the expanded, cost more, version of the Fellowship of the Ring DVD set. Dean |

One of the few benefits of getting older is that you can actually reread some of the books/series that you enjoyed 40 or 50 years ago and not remember exactly how it ended
![]() That said, I will read the first book in a series (first book by an author) when possible and if I really enjoy it ration out the rest, reading a few non series books or another type of book in between. Then on those bad days at work when I want to pillage and kill, I have a truly satisfying treat. And of course when you have read one of your favorite authors twice there is nothing like the little thrill you get by coming across one of their books you have not yet read Helen |

I hate it more when it turns into a never ending series.
