Folks have contacted Amazon CS about these ship dates and CS has said they're incorrect. I don't know if it's some kind of system glitch or what. I hope so, my orders (one on the 28th and one on the 29th) say Sept 29th as well.

I ordered the 3G only model as a second Kindle on Aug 2 at 1:30 EDT. My order info has never once shown an estimated ship date. But, I can wait. I still have tons to read on my Kindle 2.

I queried it yesterday with Amazon customer support. They said that all orders placed before midday on 1st Aug would be shipped on 27th Aug.

Glad I ordered a wifi one on July 28. Yes, Amazon started taking orders the night before the official start date (July 29th). I am expecting to be among the ones to get the first shipment. Fingers crossed.
