Any price is right if it is something you really want. I know an Elvis fan that would trade his paid off house, and car, to get a used hanky full of Elvis boogers, if he got the chance. The question is not:"is that price too high?". The question is: "Is it worth that much (whatever the price may be) TO YOU?". I'm not a big John Connolly fan, so I wouldn't pay any of the quoted prices for it...though none of them are outrageous. I just have things I want more, where I will put my money first. You must decide what you value the item at, and buy, or don't buy, accordingly. That is called 'commerce'. Long may it reign.

For the first year, or so, of using my soon to be purchased Kindle, I will buy nothing which costs over $6.00...and very few things which cost that much. Most of what I will download will be old classics..for: $0.00; $0.99; $1.29; $2.99, etc. I will add a few newer things, over time, as their prices fall a bit. For a recent-not new-former best seller, which is slipping a bit in sales as newer things get more action, I may pay as high as $10.00 for an item I really want, and have waited to get. It would have to be a really rare-and desired-collector's item before I would pay more than $10.00 for a single e-book.

I paid the equivalent of about $50 for the unabridged Chambers dictionary. For me personally, that was money well spent. As you say, it's all down to how we personally value a given title.
