Also, them there Southerners are also considered to be soft and posh and we refer to that there place where them there Southerners live as 'down south'.

Duff info? That's a new one. My guess is that it means "bad info", right? If it does, I may have to use that at some point.

So, Steven, after all this helpful advice, are you thinking it might be a good idea to make your characters American?

May I just point out a very relevant and I believe crucially important aspect of the relationship between the fine people of the north of England and the fine people of the south. To whit:

"We got money, we got money...you ain't, you ain't."

I shall end now as I believe there might be some rapscallions from Liverpool outside about to steal my hubcaps.

Won't be the first time for a story to translate elsewhere .... watched the "War of the Worlds" dvd recently ... any resemblance to the book is purely speculative .....

That's Scallywags, you naughty Southerner you. And, in a recent made up survey, it was shown that 80% of people from 'Up North' were 45% more likely to be 60% more handsome than their counterparts from 'down south'.

When Pat Stewart was offered the role of Capt Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek, the original idea was that he would adopt a French accent. He thought that was daft and insisted on Oxford English. I did notice very often, though, that he would Americanise the pronunciation of some words, 'leeshur' for leisure was one. Many, many more that I can't bring to mind. Hey, this thread has been well hijacked, eh? Fun to read, though. Hope Steven will excuse the tangents and japes. Cheers. Neil

Actually, they all are either American, or Americanized. These are just tangent characters used to build up a particularly important part of the plot. It's the only reason they're even in there.

Of course we're all quite resigned to the baddies having clipped English accents in American films. Proud of it, even...
