May I just point out a very relevant and I believe crucially important aspect of the relationship between the fine people of the north of England and the fine people of the south. To whit:

"We got money, we got money...you ain't, you ain't."

I shall end now as I believe there might be some rapscallions from Liverpool outside about to steal my hubcaps.

When Pat Stewart was offered the role of Capt Jean-Luc Picard in Star Trek, the original idea was that he would adopt a French accent. He thought that was daft and insisted on Oxford English. I did notice very often, though, that he would Americanise the pronunciation of some words, 'leeshur' for leisure was one. Many, many more that I can't bring to mind. Actually, they all are either American, or Americanized. These are just tangent characters used to build up a particularly important part of the plot. It's the only reason they're even in there.
