Actually the ideea behind this thread is very good. I was amazed by the multitude of threads cluttering the forum after the firmware update, so I think reasurance regarding the Kobo reader is welcome.

No, I had no problems at all with the device.

For example, after the firmware update I was able to read for 2 1/2 weeks (approx. 1500 pages) and still have battery left for few more days, which is a bit of a pleasant surprise.

I bought a Kobo through a friend in Canada who shipped it to Latvia and I have been very happy with it. Of course, there is always desire for improvements and new features but the basic functionality is perfect.

I did not chose Kindle for two main reasons: 1) Even the new price exceeds 150 euros when shipping is included which means that the VAT and import tax will be applied and means about $80 surcharge. Kobo price including additional shipping was just right below the 150 euros and no import tax/VAT was applied.

2) Kindle does not support the cell phone network in Latvia so this functionality is useless here.

Another reason is that I have learned to buy Amazon books, unswipe and convert them to epub for reading on Kobo. Sorry, Kobobooks, I am unable to buy from your shop without US/Canadian address.

It's interesting to note that, at least right now, there are only three threads about Kobo problems or complaints on the front page of the forum. All three look to be issues with the upgrade itself.

So my guess would be that the upgrade has eased a lot of pain for us early adopters.

Terrible Customer Care Service

I purchased a Kobo in August, 2010 in Canada. It worked for only 2 months before it died. I tried the reset function but it still wouldn't turn on.
I phoned Customer Care and they did offer to "mail" a replacement to me...but only in Canada. Kobo's are sold throughout the US and I did contact some places to see if they would do a replacement for me....but they don't do replacements apparently.
I explained this to Customer Care and they forwarded a request to another department that perhaps would be able to help me. I did receive an auto-respond email stating that they would be in touch with me within 72 hours.....that was 20 days ago! I have sent an email to them emphasizing my frustration and disgust with what they call "Customer Care"....still no reply!!

What follow up have you done in the 20 days? I can see why it would be an issue for a device sold in Canada to be replaced in another country. Borders services, sells, and replaces US sold Kobos. Kobo's lack of follow up is very bad indeed, but solving this problem to your satisfaction may be a different situations, entirely.

I have had several small problems with my Kobo--but most of them have been of my own making, for example, having two different ADE accounts associated with my Kobo account. Kobo fixed me up, but I did have to ask Sameer for some help as my issue never really seemed to get elevated to Tier 2 support.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit this, but we're a 4 Kobo family. I preordered mine when it was first announced and my husband bought his shortly afterward. We have two eight year olds who have been salivating for Kobos of their own, so this past weekend my husband and I upgraded ours to the wifi Kobos and gave our original Kobos to our daughters. Other than the issue with battery life on the original Kobos that was fixed with the firmware upgrade, we haven't had any problems with our Kobos. My sister has a Kobo1 as well, and she hasn't had any issues with it.

After three months the problems on my first white Kobo were sufficient that I exchanged it at the Chapters store for a black one. My black kobo has not had any issues for two months, very happy with it. The only thing that I've done differently with my black kobo is I've never put an SD card in it - the SD card seemed to cause some of the problems I was having with my white kobo, and since I really haven't needed the extra space, I've just gone without using it. Of course part of me is hoping something does go wrong with my kobo requiring it to be replaced by a kobo2

I hadn't seen this before. Well said!
