1. Since I am not going to Japan, what they show there and don't show there is immaterial.

2. I'm not a prude, anyone who thinks I am doesn't know anything about me. I dislike that in Ghost in the Shell Motoko says something about 'getting her period', and it was changed to 'must be a loose wire' for American viewers, when Bateau asked about all the noise in her brain. I read Playboy magazine, and not just the articles.

3. For those uninformed: naked photos, movies, etc. in the United States of anyone under the age of 18 being viewed by anyone over the age of 21 is illegal and gets a prison sentence. And the other inmates will attack anyone they think looks at child porn, even beating them to death. If you want to take that risk, I am not stopping you. but I know I wont look at anything illegal. If that stops me from seeing a movie made in Japan, so be it. Note that a woman over 18 portraying herself as underage is also not viewable by someone wanting to stay out of prison. I don't know what the actual laws say, and I have no desire to test them.

4. If you want to be concerned about integrity, I'm not the one who took a private pm public.

5. I won't re/visit a web site I feel puts my freedom in jeopordy. I am too old to survive prison. I simply won't take the chance. And frankly, underage skin is something that would make me puke my guts out.

So there you have it, a non-prude who is really disgusted at only one side being told about this.

You are the one who is uninformed here. Not all nudity is pornography, and not all nudity is illegal. For instance, the movie Pretty Baby includes a nude Brooke Shields at 12 years of age-- and is for sale pretty much everywhere that sells DVDs. I got mine from the bargin bin at Wal-Mart for around 5 bucks.

Also available is the movie American Beauty, showing a topless 17-year old Thora Birch. So is The Hole with a topless 16-year old Keira Knightly. So are many, many more movies that don't come to mind at the moment and would make a tedious list anyway.

Also the art photography books of David Hamilton and Jock Sturges and Sally Mann are freely and legally available from any on-line book seller-- and if your local shop doesn't carry them, I'm sure you could place an order without jack-booted thugs breaking down your door.

The problem is, you are not stopping to become informed about a subject before you start making incorrect assumptions and statements. Educate yourself. It is willfully ignorant people like you that end up having people who take innocent photos of their own children charged with child pornography.

All I was trying to do was show you ways of accessing Japanese movies (and TV series, both live-action and animated) that you could watch to help with your desire to learn Japanese. As I said in PM, if you are scared of anything with even a remote whiff of adolescent eroticism in it, you need to stay far, far away from everything Japanese, because it is mainstream, and everywhere.

I had taken happy_terd of my ignore list (which he deeply, deeply deserves) just to see what he said, before dumping him back in after seeing that just about everything that he said was an incorrect assumption. I replied in the message above with comments that approached the suspendable, and, while attempting to self-moderate that post, I accidentally made another reply. Since I can't delete this redundant message, I'll stick some content into it.

The sites I suggested were the main, multiple-years old communities where English fansubbers of Japanese media congregate, one for live-action TV dramas, and one for anime. These are profoundly well known (for people with interest in those areas) sites, profoundly well known by the studios, who leave them in peace as long as they delete torrents for anime and j-dramas once one of them is licensed for distribution in the US. The third link was for a site that has only mainstream theatrical releases-- not hard core porn, not soft core porn-- it has the Japanese equivalent of movies that you will find in your local megaplex-- not "titty movies" as that terd claimed. And that single cover that I posted above was the most suggestive thing in the dozens of movies available there. It simply baffled me how someone could be offended by the link, and I sent only a couple of messages curiously asking for clarification, because I was genuinely interested in how someone came to such a profoundly different impression than I would have. Since the views were so diametrically opposite, I made the poll to see which of the views was more widespread. Ignore the comments by the terd. He knows nothing about me and try my best to pretend that that person does not even exist, so his trolls towards me are wastes of his time (with this one exception.)

This is just what Japanese girls do. They try to look innocent and baby-doll like, while American girls try to look older. When I came to Japan I was kinda thrown off by this, but it's normal here.

But there seems to be a lot of "almost child pornography" out there. Practically any unfiltered internet search will pull up something. And someone could interpret that picture as being of an underage girl and react to that perception.

Do I think so? Just looking at that picture? No.

But we can all look at it and see something different. Unless he was a jerk, I would just apologies for offending him. Even if you are right, and he just can't understand it.
