Janette,

Have you informed the pharmacy of their error? It occurs to me that another possible explanation, which is at least as likely as the one you suggest, is that the pharmacy has the drug mislabelled. If they aren't aware of the problem, they could be continuing to prescribe it to other people .

Janette,
I found you on this thread because I was wondering what was going on with you and searched for your name. I am so sorry about what happened to your son.

I hope you and your son can get some justice and restitution for the mess which has been made of his (and your) life. I will keep your family in my prayers.

I used to work at Walgreens pharmacy, and while of course nobody is perfect, there were so many checks and rechecks and rechecks of all the medicines that in the two years I worked there not one person got the wrong medication.

We had to scan the prescription paper, type in the information, then the pharmacist would check the typed info against the written prescription. Then a label was printed and the barcode scanned, then the stock medication bottle barcode was scanned, and if the bottle didn't match what the label said, you couldn't continue. Then we weighed the pills, and then hand counted the pills, and labeled the bottle, and finally the pharmacist checked the pills inside the bottle against the pill description on the label. When the medication was sold, some pharmacists also liked to check one more time, in front of the customer, to make sure all the info was correct.

It would have been harder to find some workaround for all that than it would be to just let the system work.

I guess I'm saying I can't see how anyone could let the wrong medicine go out unless he or she was extremely negligent or extremely stupid, both the technicians and the pharmacist. People working there ought to take their jobs more seriously than that; I know I did. If I were you I would try and get a lawyer and hope to get at least some money out of Wal-Mart for all your trouble.

I'm sorry to hear about your situation.

Do your pill bottles come with a description of the medication inside? (Mine do, but I don't usually get my meds from Wal-Mart.) On the side of the bottle/packaging it will say something like "small round white pill, ETH written on one side". I always check that the description on my packaging matches what's inside, as that's a system designed to prevent situations just like this.

I can't figure out how to hotlink to the image I want to show, so here is the link.
The description of this medication says "round green tablet, side 1: SL 125"
