I want to ask you this since you have both the JB and the Libre. Can you verify that at this point, with firmware 0.35a, you can download public library ADE books and get them installed and read on your JB? Your post seems to imply that you have to do DRM removal to make it work. There is another member of this forum who seems very frustrated at not being able to read library books on her newly purchased Jetbook as ADE does not seem to recognize it and does not transfer the books to her device. I am looking at possibly getting a Jetbook but only if I know that I can read my library books without having to mess with DRM removal. It has been smooth sailing with my Libre so far but my head is spinning with all the firmware updates coming out for the Jetbook I can't keep straight what works right now. Thanks. |

Sorry if it was confusing but yes with .35? you can download ADE ePub/PDF ebooks either by purchase or with the O/D + ADE combo for Public Library access. You have to transfer the ebooks via ADE-PC and the USB cable to the connected device in this case the JB.
I was removing DRM before .35a because there was no DRM support for the JB. I continue to remove DRM even now because there is no garantee that you will be able to continue to read your collection in the future due to software changes in the DRM criteria. I just like to keep my purchases and Public Domain e-books. The way I see it archiving to a wallet of DVD's will last beyond my life time. Last edited by jlg432; 07-23-2010 at 03:30 PM. |

Here is another pointer w/re to ADE and the JB. I installed .35a and was able to access all ADE compliant DRM e-books that I either purchased or downloaded from my local Library.
The pointer is this - make a backup of the .adobe.... folder that gets installed on your JB and especially after you authorize the JB with the ADE-PC software. I am not referring to the "Digital Editions" folder. Why you ask? If you do a "Restore Default" whether you own the JB or the ALP you will lose the content of the folder. With the ALP you just have to waste another "Authorize Device" (you are limited to only so many). With the JB you have to re-install your .35? firmware because the JB will not be recognized by the ADE-PC software unless you copy back your "Back-up copy" If you keep a copy of your ".adobe..." folder found on your device's internal memory (whether JB or ALP) you will not have to waste another "Authorize device - life". Just copy it back when it is screwed. Don't forget this ADE-PC is tied into your Adobe account that you created when you installed the ADE-PC software. It as well may have only so many installs before you are stopped. You cold always create a new account for the ADE software but then all your older e-books would be restricted from being read with the new account. Make sure you label your back-up folder for each device so that it reflect device and date as the folder being copied is named the same for both. The date may come in handy in the event there are software updates with adobe - never overlay your backup just place in a folder labeled as the date taken. Just some tips. Of course you can do whatever you want. John |
