Someone asked for quotes from women without leaving any of their favorites, so I went and found some that I liked.
"When one door of happiness closes, another opens; but often we look so long at the closed door that we do not see the one which has been opened for us.” ~ Helen Keller “Life shrinks or expands in proportion to one's courage.” ~ Anais Nin “What I cannot love, I overlook” ~ Anais Nin “Sometimes questions are more important than answers.” ~ Nancy Willard “A person who can write a long letter with ease, cannot write ill.” ~ Jane Austen “For most of history, Anonymous was a woman.” ~ Virginia Woolf “The truth is not for all men, but only for those who seek it.” ~ Ayn Rand “Hope is the feeling that the feeling you have isn't permanent.” ~ Jean Kerr “Lead me not into temptation; I can find the way myself.” ~ Rita Mae Brown And my favorite, even though it's not a quote by a woman: "Biologically speaking, if something bites you, it is more likely to be female." ~ Desmond Morris (I love me my bug quotes.) |

I myself have never been able to find out precisely what feminism is: I only know that people call me a feminist whenever I express sentiments that differentiate me from a doormat, or a prostitute. - Rebecca West

I just discovered you get the quotes when you go the table of contents and picking a chapter. Since I've been reading by pressing the right side of the D-button (and when I load the book it goes to the last page I read of course) I don't see the quotes.
Doesn't everyone read this way? ![]() ![]() |

Just had a quick look through the 1.4 firmware (SD card image) looking for the quotes.
I unpacked the firmware upgrade file. Among other stuff, it contains two large files:
Unpacking fs.tgz we find the quotation strings in the shared library usr/local/Kobo/libnickel.so.1.0.0. Code:
It was the best of times,
it was the worst of times. ~ Charles Dickens The greatest masterpiece
in literature is only a
dictionary out of order. ~ Jean Cocteau Any sufficiently
advanced technology
is indistinguishable
from magic. ~ Arthur C. Clarke I don't necessarily agree
with everything I say. ~ Marshall McLuhan I've been on the verge of
being an angel all my life,
but it's never happened yet. ~ Mark Twain The good ended happily,
and the bad unhappily.
That is what fiction means. ~ Oscar Wilde A grapefruit is just a lemon
that saw an opportunity
and took advantage of it. No pressure,
no diamonds. ~ Thomas Carlyle Big shots are only little shots
who keep shooting. ~ Christopher Morley Books are the carriers of
civilization. Without books,
history is silent, literature dumb,
science crippled, thought and
speculation at a standstill. ~ Henry David Thoreau |
