While, the best device to read books with are definitely eBook readers like Kindle and Kobo, the iPad and even a netbook are fine to use if you do not mind the additional glare and the difficultly seeing the screen in bright environments. Before eReaders, I read countless ebooks using just my laptop. I myself prefer e-ink, but that won't stop me from reading a book on an iPad on occasion if it happens to be laying around and the mood hits.

I think you have to follow the money on this one.
Gizmos like MP3 players cost hundreds of bucks less than a decade ago. EReaders of every type over time will fall in price to basically free. Therefore, the source of money is entirely based on the number of books bought, not on the device prices. Real techies don't matter, they will end up stealing most of their books anyway. Super-cheap Ereaders will explode in marketshare by being almost free and super-easy for non-techies to handle (those are the people with the money).

I'd be happy to evaluate your claims --- if I didn't have to pay for the privilege...

Meanwhile, I'll wait for the new high-contrasts screens before I spend more money on readers.

I think he meant dedicated e-readers in general, with Kindle and Kobo offered as examples. I think. In contrast to iPads, netbooks, plasma TVs, microwave oven digital displays, etc.
