raevyn1, thanks for the pics.
So the vinyl screen protection is open in the 4 edges. This was not visible on m-edge's site. ![]() Is it more difficult to write on iLiad through the vinyl? |

yokos Yeah, the clear vinyl over the screen is open at 4 corners. I was surprised by that, too. But it isn't necessarily bad, because it serves a few purposes: 1) it helps you adjust the Sleeve by giving somewhere to hook a finger and wiggle until the overlay fits properly; 2) the openings act as ventilation windows, preventing moisture from condensing inside the Sleeve; and 3) the openings along the bottom let you tap icons.
Does the vinyl interfere with the pen? Well, yes and no. The vinyl lies on top of the casing of the iLiad, while the screen itself is recessed several millimeters, and this recession is uneven in depth. The stylus does function without actually touching the screen, gliding along the vinyl, but the airspace between the screen and vinyl means that using the stylus needs a light touch. Heavy stylus pressure on the vinyl may leave depressions, especially along the bottom icon region. I haven't poked a hole through it yet, though came close a few times. ![]() Never realized what a beautiful but wildly asymmetric object the iLiad is until I put the Sleeve Jacket on it. Hope that helps. Rae |

How do the buttons align with the cover? |

The whole alignment thing is the trickiest aspect about the Sleeve Jacket. There's an overlay, basically labels painted on the neoprene cover which mark the locations of the buttons on the iLiad itself. The neoprene is full-thickness with nothing (no indentation) to hold the overlay in position, other than the relative position of the cover. If you can get the cover on just right and secure with the velcro closure, the overlay should line up with all the buttons accurately. It took a few tries, but it does seem to get easier with practice.

Book jacket and the stylus
Like someone else, I ordered both the book jacket and the sleeve from M-edge, to see which worked better. I think the book jacket will be a bit of a $US40 white elephant, at least for my purposes.
The main reason is that you can't easily access the pen slot when the Iliad is in place. Sure, there's a nice little pair of loops for it inside the jacket, but that becomes useless as soon as the digitiser turns itself off. You need to be able to put the stylus back into the holder to turn it on again. Since you effectively have to partially remove the Iliad from the jacket to get at it, you may as well leave the pen in the holder. So, if you're just reading page after page, it'll be fine, but as soon as you need to do something that requires the pen, it's going to be a pain. I also think the jacket is a bit bulky and I don't like the asymmetric nature of it ... the spine is significantly larger than the thickness of the Iliad, which means that when closed, the cover slants down towards the right. The sleeve, on the other hand, fits well (after a bit of fiddling) and gives you good access to the pen holder. I'll probably use that 95% of the time. Of course, your mileage may vary. |

I like the Sleeve better, too, but lack of card access will limit my use of it. |

Mine should arrive today...there was a problem wit the first shipment, it never arrived, but M-Edge sent it again (very good service that...they even sent it with UPS 2-Day this time) and it is now "out for delivery" so I should get it in the next minutes or hours.
If you think your's is overdue, just drop M-Edge a mail and see what they tell you. They seem very helpful. Ieven got an additional "Sleeve Cover" as a "delay compensation" free of charge without asking for it. When did you order yours? |

I got mine today...the second shipment...
The Book-cover is GREAT. The only things I could complain about are that the front isn't quite stiff enough for my taste (I'll have to look for something that I can use to stiffen it even further) and that the pen isn't easy to remove when the Iliad is in the cover. apart from that, it's a very good fit and it seems very well made. I especially liek that fact that you can fold back the frontcover so easily and then still read with just one hand I even feel like it's a bit more comfortable to hold the Iliad with one hand when it's in the book-jacket, despite the added weight of about 250g. |

Hi,
My M-edge bookjacket arrived yesterday (just two days after my illiad) and at first I thougt it to be too bulky (the illiad is almost as big now as my thinkpad x20), but it really does seem ot offer protection, and I got used to it in about five hours time, now reading seems like reading one of those hardcovers and I like it. The only issue is the stylus, and I have been thinking about fastening some kind of a finger-loop on it, so it could be removed with more ease. |
