Strange. I tried several free books from here and all of them in ePub format now.

I try not to give advice on removing drm, but you might find some info in these googles searches here, here, here, and here.

It is my belief that the epub books sold here use a DRM compatible with Sony devices. You might have to first use Adobe Digital Editions to download the book after purchase, but after it is on your machine you can use whatever tool you like to put them on your reader.

I use Calibre.

From what I gather, if you use your web browser to download the eBook, it will be eReader and if you use the B&N program to download, it will be ePub. The free eBook of the week that I downloaded today via the B&N program was downloaded as ePub. DRM was stripped and I just have to sort out the ePub before I read it.

I haven't read all the way to the end of the thread yet, but I was having the same trouble on my MacBook Pro and was able to solve it by deleting a folder.

Go to ~/library/Preferences and delete the Sony Corporation folder.

After I deleted that folder the Reader window popped right up. Although it did not see my downloaded ebooks any longer. So be prepared for that.
