kk, I believe that I would like to be a teacher. Something 8th grade or higher for sure, even considering college professor, but not certain. Now, as I understand it nothing in the military directly relates to that profession, but there are quite a few that would indirectly relate to it, and more than enough experience to make the heads spin of my students.

in many ways teaching is a fairly natural offshoot of the military. in all but the lowest ranks you are almost always training someone below you. in most units you have "other duties as assigned" where you are sent off to become if not expert, then pretty damn good in a skill that is not yours and at least some members of the unit need to be trained in it. we used to have what was called "hip pocket training", and that was a deal where you were expected to be able to present a quick class on a subject that chose and be able to deliver it with "nothing more than what you might have in your hip pocket". one of my favorites was "camouflage, cover and concealment". I was in a non-combat arms unit so it was not a stressed skill.

I was in a small kind of specialized unit for a little while where we would go on a lot of field manuevers. I was the only woman in it, the first one in it and so on. I knew I had made it and was one of the guys when we had been moving for 3 days, got caught in a downpour and had to get into dry clothes. there was absolutely no privacy and no one looked at me twice. I was totally one of the guys!
