OK, next problem - with the DR1000 docked to the computer - ADE (1.7.2.1131) crashes every time seconds after the start.
The eventlog tells this (sorry, it's a german w7 64bit):

"LIMIT" brings it to the limit

And the next one (sorry):

Frank Schätzing - Limit brings the reader to its limit. This ebook has graphics between the chapters. It needs a long time, to show one of these graphics and e.g. you can change from the graphic on page 285 back to the text on page 283, but not from the graphic on page 285 to the text on page 286. The "please wait" sign remains on top, even when the green LED on the top has stopped blinking.
No icon is working, you can't open the menu.
You can change to main-tab, but there is no way back to the book (using the open tab or reopening the book). Shutting down the device shows an error (unexpected error. the documents could not be saved - something like this).
After the reboot, re-opening "Limit" is not possible. "please wait" and the top-LED remains blinking. Another reboot (reset) is the only way back to a normal device behavior.

:edit: Re-opening is possible after deleting the metadata.db in the directory, where the book resides. Good luck - I made an extra dir for this book. ;-)

:edit2: The first visible element on the page following such a graphic is a link to the main menu, followed by the header of the next chapter. Maybe there is a problem with this link. I have seen, that building the book-menu (klick on the icon) takes a lot of time, maybe the link results in an endless loop or something else...

There are 2 bugs in the html browser:

1. If you want to scroll down the .html page you touch the down button once -- and that's OK. But if you want to scroll down any further beyond the first screen (in case of long .html files) you seem to need to touch the down button twice. Touching the down button once doesn't change anything.

2. If you adjust the font size in .html files and choose for example "Large" or "X-Large" the adjustment works but the menu indicates it's "Medium" all the time.

Well this is weird. I got a new SD card to put this beta firmware on. Installation went smooth, but I noticed that the stylus didn't work. Where do you turn it on/off in this firmware?

Now comes the weird bit. I shut down the device, put the card with the old firmware back in - and lo and behold - the new firmware is on there as well! What?

Edit: Firmware is not on the card but loaded into the reader. So to revert you need to put the old system files back on the card and the machine will update to the older firmware.

You can switch the stylus on in the dr.ini file: use_stylus=true

I tried to install the update but I left all my books on there, I kind of wish I had cleared the card first now, the reader has been indexing for about 22 hours now which doesn't seem right. If I hit reset will it brick my reader or do I just have to wait it out. I think I had a lot of small files in a folder which may be creating this delay in indexing. The light is still going so its doing something, I just don't know what.

The indexing and thumbnail generation can take some time (a few seconds per file), but 22 hours can't be right unless you have an insane amount of files on the card.

When the reader says it's "Indexing..." you can reset the device without risking to 'brick' it. In case you see boot splash with the animated spinner, that should not take longer than about 5 minutes. If it takes longer something has gone wrong. Resetting will trigger a second try.

Thanks, I reset it it, deleted all the books out of my card and re-ran it and now it seems to have worked. Some file must have made it loop or something, I didn't have a ton of files on the card probably 100 or so. I'll add them back on slowly as I check it out. Thanks again

I have installed the new version and found 2 major changes:

1 All sensors become very insensitive.

2 The hand-writing is more accuracy now, especially in the boundary of the screen.

Is these changes due to the new software? I thought all of these 2 things related hardware.

Another bug: You can no longer open a set of image files. If I open a file called 001.png it's impossible to go to 002.png, 003.png etc. by touching the buttons.

Well, I have to say, for a Beta release this is a massive move forward. PDFs (the only real format I use) are much quicker and the new adobe reader opens some PDFs that the old reader could not cope with.

A few niggles though. The bookmarks are less useful now as there is no thumbnail of the page, some of the views don't quite refresh fully but nothing so far that should stop someone upgrading and giving it a try. I guess we need to wait and see if the power drain issues are fixed.

Only real complaints are:

where is the suspend to flash?
Cannot (currently) merge scribbles

Books option don't work

I've just upgraded to 2.0
On my DR1000 I've about 3000 books organized in various subfolder under a folder named 'libri'
Now if I use the option 'SD Card' I can browse my library and read my books. Otherwise if I use the option 'books' my DR1000 hangs and I must reset it to use.
Another anomaly, when I reset my reader it take about 5 minutes to 'indexing' phase.

Hase anyone the same problem ?

An idea for all those encountering indexing problems: scan your SD cards for errors. In my case there were 2 unreadable files plus a bunch of damaged .MBPs.

I've had the problem, that thumbnailing/indexing stopped with an error. It was an eBook with an error, that could not be opened (no error on sd-card, an error within the file). After deleting this file, all was ok. Maybe it's something like this.

The indexing is certainly taking a long time. I have about 700 pdf files on the device. Every time I reattach the device to my computer and add or remove just a couple of files it seems to need to reindex everything - which is a bit frustrating, because the indexing takes more than half an hour.

PDF rendering is very good. I have yet to see a mistake. The previous firmwares seemed to have trouble rendering some titles/captions. So far, I've spotted no such problems.

But is it my imagination or is the contrast less? Is this on-screen aliasing or some kind of cleartype thing? Anyone else experience this?
