I've found a less disturbing way of annoying squirrels. I sprinkle cayenne or chilli pepper onto the seeds on the bird table. The birds don't mind, but the squirrels sneeze and go away for a day or two.

So my strategy would be to lob a chilli grenade at the squirrels and rescue VR while they are sneezing. That way no one gets hurt.

NB The Indian army are experimenting with chilli grenades:

that's actually the main ingredient in tear gas as many a US Soldier who has had to go through the chamber can tell you

Cayenne is in the commercially available "tear gas." Haven't you ever had to do confidence training with actual CS? oi. I'd stand in line for four hours to have a rabid eco-nut screaming invectives about my gas guzzling Jeep and spraying me with cayenne spray the whole time to avoid doing CS yet again.

Anyway, I think we have enough of a posse. Let's get together and plan out the search patterns. Maybe by Saturday we'll get around to actually going and looking for the little bugger.

Me too. Although it was certainly fun watching everyone else come out of the chamber... I'll never forget the Pfc that walked out, waved his hands about for a moment and then rubbed his eyes. Wow, the way he screamed and dropped to the ground .... it was pretty funny in an "I'm really glad that isn't me" sort of way.

There's no cayenne in CS. It's pure and unadulterated agony in a vapor. For one, the dispersion of cayenne would lead to fairly rapid settling. You can tolerate cayenne after a while and CS is a burn that just keeps on giving.

I didn't say cayenne. it's capsicin (sp?) which is from the oil of chilies. not sure which ones, but that is what it is made from!

CS is a specific molecue see here. Whereas capsaiscin is another that is derived from capsicum plants. My point is, the confidence training uses CS, rather than capsaiscin. Or at least they did back in the 80's when I was in...
