@Idolse: have you gotten around to this yet? I think that a user initiated counting process which updated a custom column is a good solution. As of now I use an unholy shell incantation which relies on wc and the book existing in txt format to do exactly this, but I'd be interested in a plugin which handled it for me

I'm no python coder, but if there is anything I can do to help let me know.

If anyone's interested in the shell script I can share it, but I wouldn't recommend it for production use (horned bipedals might show up on your door).

That's interesting, thanks for the tip

I'd still like word count though, as that's a meaningful number for me (I work in a publishing house). I have had a look at the source code for the plugin, and believe I can extend it to also calculate word count as an option. I'll have a chat with kiwidude and see what he thinks.

ADE stands for Adobe Digital Editions. It is Adobe's ebook manaagement software.
There is a page count plugn for calibre that works with EPUB and MOBI in the plugin sub forum. It is made by Kiwidude.

Edit: stupid me not realizing there was more than one page of comments...

I haven't had much time for Calibre development lately, but the page count plugin could probably be modified trivially to do word count as a third algorithm. I'll look into it and discuss with kiwidude if it looks feasible.
