Too funny! I got an email yesterday with a UPS tracking number notifying me that I'd be getting the box from Sony to ship my reader to them for the fix. The problem is, I received the box about a week ago! And, they've had my reader since Tuesday!

I can tell you this. The new update DEFINITELY fixes the battery issue. After charging this morning once I received my unit back from Sony I was able to spend the rest of the day reading on it with absolutely no drop in battery status. Before the fix it would have drained the battery within the hour. It's like it's brand new again!

WooHoo!

I got my PRS-500 back on Monday and I've used it (and fully charged it) since then. The firmware is 2.0.00.14251 and the battery life is normal again. Also, it seems a little faster at various things, for example, formatting a document or finding a page, probably because it's running at full power.

I haven't used my reader in well over a year because of the battery issue. If I call them and complain about this problem will they take care of me? Or will I have to charge it up and get the required firmware to be eligible?

I use to charge it completely, then the very next day I would barely be able to get 10 pages. I simply gave up and went back to paper books.

I never got around to taking care of it because I figured it would be a replacement of the same problem, but it seems like users are reporting a big increase in battery life.

Thanks for reading

I've rung them today (my Reader discharged one too many times..) and I am planning to send it off today.
Same thing as last time, i.e. I pay for transport to US and they pay to send it back to me.
Same address as last time, the same address in Laredo (suite C).

Too bad. I think I'll leave things this way. Even because the first time they didn't pay the way back and I don't want to pay other 80 € for the two shipments. My reader don't even discharge so alarmingly fast (I can read two book with a charge) so I'll keep this firmware version.

Thank you anyway for the info.

Depends on the book
I was reading Lord of the Rings, which really does need more charge.

That's right. Let's say I turned 650-700 pages, and that could be enough.
