You can search in a document, but you can also search your titles/authors and do partial searches as well. No need to match the complete author/title, just one word is good enough. One other thing, the search speed on this blows the Kindle away.

That's the advantage of using a real DB format to store the index of the device.

I received my Irex today and plugged it in about 3 hours ago using the supplied wall charger and cable. I still have no light and it will not turn on. I started charging it via just the usb cable plugged into my computer about 15 minutes ago and still nothing. My computer is not recognizing it either.

Is there some trick to make it work, tab to pull, or did I just a get a bad unit?

plug it in to the wall or computer and then hold the power button all the way left for 5 to 10 seconds so it will boot. then you can flick the switch left and it will go to sleep and charge

Thank you. That did the trick. It would have been so nice if they had simply added this little instruction in the manual. I also now get the orange charging light when I did not before.

Yeah, that's confused several people. Most of the time the DR800 will never be really off, but rather in a sleep mode. The description of the behavior in the manual applies to when the device is sleeping (orange LED, etc). When you first take it out of the box, the battery is dead and it's really off, so it acts a little differently.

In another thread (never tried it myself) someone explained, Kindle would be able to search within the content of all books from the library view? So you can't just search for title or within a specific book, but in all books for certain keywords? Doesn't this mean, Kindle's database has to be 500 times bigger than the one on iRex? Would explain the lower speed. On the other hand it sounds great ("which one was the article about iPad?").

I just found this out today. I am quickly finding that I am not a fan of the B&N eBooks. Can't change the text, can't do a search. what good is the dictionary that I downloaded if I can't search.

One thing I am finding is that the small font size is 1 point to 2 point sizes too small while the medium is 3-4 point sizes too big. Is there any way to adjust this. I am sure the answer is no but I believe in the no question is stupid philosophy...although this one might be the exception that proves the rule

Also, does the orange charge light ever turn green to signify that the unit is fully charged? Mine has been charging for about 10 hours now and the light is still orange but the battery indicator looks full.

The light seems to be sporadic. I've had it turn green once or twice, but it's been mentioned in another thread that it is a known bug. In regards to the text size, I agree. Since I side load all of my content I've found a solution using Calibre to adjust the font sizes.

I also mostly use side loaded material and I use Calibre but I obviously need to learn better how to use it since I wasn't aware font changing was an option. Thank you for the tip.

I posted this in another thread regarding Calibre settings for conversion:

I have two settings that I use, one gives 33 lines of text per page and the other gives 36 lines when set to the medium font size. Both of these fall between the small and medium settings on the 800. For 33 lines of text I use a base font of 11 and a font size key of 9,11,13,14,15,17,19. For 36 lines per page is us a base font of 10 with a key of 8,10,12,13,14,16,18.

I would love to see an additional value between the default small and medium settings, but for now the above calibre settings work perfectly.

No, it stays orange. It's a bug, they've said it will be fixed in the next update.

Must be an intermittent bug - mine didn't go off to begin with, now it does, which is not to say that it will next time I charge it.
