gr8npwrfl has pictures posted of the insides of one someplace in here.

I suspect that the 4 small rubber pads hide screws holding the back cover in place.

* Lithium Polymer Chemistry info
* 3.7 volts
* info3000 mAh info
* 100% OEM Compatible. This aftermarket Ectaco AEJ001SL Battery is guaranteed to meet or exceed OEM specifications.
* Integrated Power Management Circuits - protect against over-voltage and under-voltage conditions and maximizes battery life between charges, minimizes charging times, and improves overall battery life.
* The Ectaco AEJ001SL Battery provides 300-500 discharge/charge cycles. info
* Your new Ectaco AEJ001SL Battery comes in a discharged condition and must be charged before use (refer to your manual for charging instructions).
* The Ectaco AEJ001SL Battery prefers a partial rather than a full discharge. Frequent full discharges should be avoided when possible.

That last line makes interesting reading.
Considering that I'm charging mine every 2nd or 3rd day I may have to think about investing in one of those kits in the somewhat near future.

Thanks for the link!

I agree and that's why I decided to buy the Aluratek Libre. It has ADE DRM support now, whereas Ectaco is "working on it" for the Jetbook Lite. I've been reading books I checked out from my local library on it. I just wish that my library offered a bigger selection of ebooks. A lot of them seem to be romance books for women.

Thank you for the link. I am really enjoying the libre, getting around to reading older books that I did not want to buy a copy that will just eventually litter my home library where I really don't have any more room to store anything. I wish the number buttons on the right side could activate the menu choices directly without having to pull up the menu itself first.

In the past in most of my PDAs the touchscreen would go dead first or my needs would outgrow their capabilities so I never got to a point where I invested in battery replacement. If you or anyone else get around to doing this, please post your step by step experiences on line so that we can learn.

The big questions for me is:

can you recharge the JBL rechargeable AA batteries WHILE IN THE DEVICE?

I mean, can you plug the USB cable in the computer (or with an AC head on it inot the wall) and charge the Batteries instead of recharging in a charger ever time ?

(my last voice recorder allowed that feature)

Thanks

I don't think they put the charging circuitry into the JBL. They were aiming for a
lowest price marketing advantage. They have really made little effort to have the
JBL be rechargeable friendly. The power monitoring and control seems unable to
properly deal with the discharge curve of the common NiMh battery, used with the
AA form factor.

That said, one of the major advantages of the very easy user battery
replacement, in the JBL, is that you can carry an additional set of charged up
batteries for fast on the go replacement. You wouldn't normally want to charge
the batteries in the JBL. With an offline charger and an extra set of batteries,
you need never be without a powered up JBL, or be unable to use it to read
your books. Or, have it limited by the length of a cord.

Luck;
Ken

No, you cannot.

Although you could probably rig something if you are handy enough, Val Reaves, sales manager from Ectaco says that you can't(note:Page is at ectaco.com forums, you might need to register/login)...

I don't understand why you would want to do this with the Lite; the convenience with this model is the ability to recharge *another* set of batteries *elsewhere* while you are reading on the device, or use disposables. If you prefer to charge an internal battery, the regular jetBook or Libre is the one for you (and you don't have the battery bump which some find ugly)!

Hey,

I don't mind the battery bump, like another said earlier, it's great for hoding the reader. I besides the batteries, and being iffy about how long that lithion battery lasts, its neat to go anywhere get batteries and power up. Not to mention the wide array of ebook formats. I like that the sceen is buff instead of super shiny too! I've had mine for a week now, and I'm saving up for another one!

The jetBook LITE actually has Barnes and Noble DRM on it which is a HUGE plus since all you do is go to www.bn.com and download any book you want.

I got an entire set for my in-laws since they travel everywhere and they've never been happier.
