I would. Just thinking out loud.

Ok, I only buy as few paper books as it is right now. I have three bookcases and one with a broken shelf cos... my sisters say I have too many books. I love my books but these ereaders (or other handhelds that do the job) let me have my desire for reading, and not make it so, I wind up living in my books apartment, instead of the books being with me!

Venting all that... I want as few new paper books as possible. especially hardback ones! Just give me the ebooks! They can sell'em on a minidisc how 'bout that?

I might go for it in case its one of my favourite Authors, whose pBook i want for my collection or its a book which I want in pBook for easy reference.

Otherwise there is little incentive for me to get the pBook as I have a hard enough time keeping track of and getting rid excess in my current pBook collection that I would want to add to it.

For a reference book, or a textbook, probably. For fiction, probably not.

Note that Baen has done some experiments along these lines - some of their hardcovers had a bound-in CD containing the full text of the book (usually along with 20 or 25 other books from the same or related authors) and at one point some of their paperbacks had a promo code in the back that could be redeemed for the current month's Webscription (4-7 books).

I would if it was a text book I need, language study or a recipe book. Those are the only pbooks I still buy. Like others here I have way too many books and don't have space for more.
But like sabredog said above, it will probably be 'not available to my geographical location', so why dream about the impossible?

My primary reason for reading eBooks is that I had no more room in my house for more books, and eBook readers are cheaper than large houses .

I would under very strict circumstances. I study Motown history so I tend to want those (and related) books in hardcover. If I had the ebook to go with that - great. For instance, I saw a book about Marvin Gaye for the Kindle at a decent price (very surprised...) I ordered it, but I also ordered a used copy of the hardcover (and still ended up paying less than the hardcover when new...)

That's quite a great summary of all of the above and I go for that too as many here.
One more reason I wouldn't buy a fiction paperbook, especially a HC, with the ebook given with it is that it keeps the illusion that the ebook is not the book and should be treated differently.
The author work is still here, so is the editing (theorecally), it's a book. It's not a collateral advantage of the "real" thing. Since it's part of the probleme of the actual "ebook probleme", I would'nt support it.

I would consider it a bonus. Currently, I buy all my nonfiction and select fiction authors in hardcover only. If I were given a free ebook copy with the purchase it would not change my buying habits, only my reading method. I would still buy the hardcover but read the ebook version.

I only buy throwaway ebooks -- that is, fiction that I read once and then delete. Consequently, I only spend a few dollars at most on an ebook.

My reading habits are such that my hardcover purchases outpace my ebook purchases probably by 3:1. Within the past 3 weeks I purchased 7 hardcovers and 0 ebooks, so I would love to be able to buy a hardcover and get a free ebook copy.

I would only buy a hardback if it was some kind of collectors edition version of the book. 98% of books I'd rather just have the e-book!

This is good info. I had not thought of the reference or text book issue. Man it would be nice to offer an ereader to my students for their tenure at my high school. Then issue ebooks for classes.

I know that there are some schools that do the laptops.
