Michael Crichton had some nice things to say about healthy skepticism and the de-politicisation of scientific research that was in the public interest:
http://www.crichton-official.com/spe...talfuture.html I am skeptical of an issue that has done an Orwellian NewSpeak transformation from "Global Warming" to the somewhat bland "Climate Change" (after all, climate is by definition an inherently unstable system, subject to continuous change, so what does this new name really mean?). I also find it distasteful how skeptics to the climate change "science" are shouted down - the hysteria is often akin to religious fervor with the unfortunate unbelievers labelled as heretics (you can almost hear the Monty Python cries of "Burn her, burn her, she's a witch" in the background). I think less pollution of all kinds is in our best interest, but misleading science on climate change, or worse yet, imposing pseudo-scientific beliefs as fact, will do more harm than good on such an important issue. |

Here are a few more good general science sites:
National Science Foundation http://www.nsf.gov/ NASA http://nasascience.nasa.gov/ Science Friday http://www.sciencefriday.com/ Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America http://www.pnas.org/ I would recommend staying away from single-issue sites. All too often they're pushing their own agendas. Last edited by WT Sharpe; 01-21-2010 at 12:28 PM. |

Yes, very well pointed out. A lot of single-issue sites masquerade as being open to objective scientific discussion, but tend to avoid or shout down any serious debate on opinions that don't follow their agenda(s). And considering the complex nature of the climate change issues, and the potential impact across scientific and cutlural boundaries, the broader coverage sites make more sense. Not ignoring the appropriate specialists in the cimate field, of course... ![]() |
