That's fine, make it configurable, I'll bet you a $0.10 that most heavy readers that have fully functional appendages would not choose swipe. I'm not sure what a rocker switch is, but I look at a Kindle and get page turn envy (I have a 505).

The Kindle 1 had a horrid page turn design with the huge buttons on both sides. I was constantly turning the pages by accident and frequently I would put it down and not realize one of the buttons was being pushed by something next to it on the table, and myself at the end of the book when I next picked it up. The Kindle 2's buttons were not convenient for my hand and I always found it uncomfortable. I love swiping the PRS-600. Depending on how I'm situated I either hold and swipe with the same hand, using my thumb to swipe, or hold with one and swipe with the other. I don't find it intrusive to use 2 hands -- after all that's how I hold a pbook, use one to hold and the other to turn the page. At first I hated it because Sony by default has the swipes set to what I consider the opposite of intuitive, but once I discovered I could switch the direction I was happy as a pig in feces. Well I also hated it because their software is a useless piece of crap, but then I discovered Calibre and all was good. -Marcy |

a rocker switch looks a bit like a turn wheel, except that it is not a wheel. It generally has a small appendage on it for better grip. You push it back and forth ("rocking") to change pages. It's an awesome way of changing pages, I'd say. The only drawback on the Mini is the location... I'd have loved to have it in the left side of the device (like I have on my PDA...)

Hi everybody.
Now that iRex DR800 is much too expensive (announced $399,- now: EUR 499,-) and the Skiff ist much too big and expensive the Onyx Boox / Bebook Neo seems to be the only alternative. Great work !!!!!!!!!!!!!! and running !!! What i'd like to know: I heard about that someday there probably will be a 8" Display Device available - but i cannot find anything about it. So please: Is there any information available about that ? |

but here is Mike's response Onyx is planning to release many new versions of the Boox including a 10" and a 8" within the first or second quarters of 2010. Onyx is also coming out with a 5" version with features closer to the popular Sony 600 and the Kindle to compete with them except with a lower price. |

Looking at the PocketPro, I'm not sure I would like the rocker (it's the black knob on the right side?). The two buttons on the front left look ideal to me, the placement looks just about perfect. I don't like the buttons on my 505, they are too hard to press. Just to reiterate my stance ![]() |

I could use taps on my JE-100 (LCD, windows ce), but I've turned it off. I prefer buttons. |

Every time i go by a Sony reader any where i go up and change that setting ![]() When Plastic Logic showed their device a year and a half ago they had it the same way as Sony. I talked to them about how it was opposite of how you turn a physical page. They changed the default and allow the user to pick which way now ![]() |

Great news! MikeOnyx, if you already know that the 8" will be the frst to be released, could you be a bit more specific as to when that might happen? Given the slew of new devices with larger screens, I'm sure many people who are looking forward to an 8" device which promises the ideal balance btwn portability and readability of pdfs would appreciate a definite statement, even if it just specifies the quarter of release. Please let us know if the new devices will have Wifi (Boox 80) or not (Boox 80 s).
Especially for the European market, where the Entourage is not yet released and where IREX will launch its nice looking, but horrendously over-priced DR800 tomorrow, this would be god to know! |
