Some folks are intimidated by MobileRead. It's not as touchy-feely as other sites (I've seen posts calling it unfriendly - usually related to device bashing that makes them feel uncomfortable). Some are not interested in other devices, they just like the social aspect of the board and it's the device that brings them together. And again MR is more geeky and some aren't into that.

It's exactly 6 months from today that the board has started and I think it has co-existed well with MR. Just like the IPAD specifics boards, Nook, Kindle boards. A majority of the Sony board members spends just as much time in MR. Especially as daffy4u stated above, MR is the place to be for the technical aspect of owning an ebook reader.

Just wanted to mark the 6 months anniversary of the board and can't believe how time flies!

YAY! I guess I'm an "old timer" at the Sony Reader board since I joined it in February. I need to start hanging out there more often!

Actually, in response to the visibility of the "Sony Reader Forum", I found it before I found this one! Don't remember what I searched for. Just saying.
I agree that this, MR, forum is the one for technical information exchange, but I think that, when it comes to this type forum, more than one serves to allow a person to choose the forum with the personality that they are comfortable with. In some cases I feel that I can contribute more to one forum rather than another. I know that in some of the watch forums on which I participate, showing pictures of a new acquisition brings very different responses. Bottom line, I like choices.
Cheers,
kev

I also found the Sony Reader Forum first. Also from a link from Amazon. I was researching the Nook, Kindle, & Sony Readers. Being that I live in New York and From Chicago, I wanted to use the library also (NYPL, Brooklyn, & Chicago libraries - all 3 have a nice selection of ebooks) so the Kindle was crossed out right away. It was between the Sony PRs-600, PRS-900, and Nook. At the end I chose the Sony PRS-900 due to the 7.1 inch screen and touch functionality.

Thanks to the Sony Forum that helped me decide. I found MR and hope to make this place my 2nd home (I moderate at the Sony Forum so it's my #1 priority)!

So, does this Sony Forum allow promotion of MobleRead?

Just my personal opinion here, but I think posting "hey, go to this competing forum" on any forum is in really bad taste.

I joined the Sony board from a link seen on this forum. Has it lessen my visits here? Not in the least.
I actually enjoy the fact that I now have 2 reliable places to go to, for thoughts and views on topics I am interested in. I find users with passion in both, and am attracted as a consequence.
So, I do not see it as competition. It is more of a complementary relationship which can only benefit users like me, with different devices now and likely in the future.
Never thought of either as replacement for the other... I am enjoying both so much!
